  1. Nice to meet you all tonight, Philoshop, Stay at home Nomad, Pygmy, Turkeyfeathers and family. Met for the first time in person, but feels like I've known you for a long time. Good people, good food, and a good time. TF, thanks for the Sahlens. Up on deck for the grill after work tomorrow. Pygmy and I made it back to my place before we turned into pumpkins. Well, I think so anyways, he had 10 or so more miles to go.
  2. Have to give it a try at 400. That back treeline is at 405 yds.
  3. Put a box of 140 gr. core-lokts through it. The top pic is dialing the scope down at 200 yds. The closest to the bullseye are the last two shots. Bottom pic is at 300 yds with 140 grain Federal Fusions The two low shots were holding the crosshairs on the bullseye, the bullseye shot is holding the first BDC hash on the bullseye. Rang the gong a few times. The cheek piece is nice just a click or two up. The barrel got damn hot, didnt want to give any more clicks to the scope. It didn't help sitting in the full sun. Comfortable shooter from the lead sled. Very light trigger. I think I like it a lot! I'll get used to the stock.
  4. Yeah, if and when I use it for deer it'll be just carried back and forth to a stand. One of the closer ones!
  5. That's cool, I was there for that one too! Kiss was new at the time and my parents were kind of sketchy on me going. Was 15 or 16 I think.
  6. Happy Birthday - looks like a sunny day for you!
  7. Free floated. Checked it with a sheet of paper back to the action. It's freakin heavy. I just balanced it on the bathroom scale - who knows how accurate that is - came in a 12.5 lbs. I believe it. Feels like holding 1 & 1/2 guns.
  8. Holy crap, this thing showed up in two days. Saturday delivery no less. I expected it in 3 weeks by the confirmation email. I'm not sure if I like it or not looks-wise, seems a little flashy for me. Kind of wish I went with the darker nutmeg option. Will be 75% bench gun 25% deer gun. Mostly a bench gun that I can kill a deer with. Had to do some dremel work on the stock for final fitting. Topped it with a 4-16x vortex diamondback. They sell different butt extenders at Boyd's, and I think I'll get one without that silver color. Have to go put some rounds down the pipe later and finish sighting it in. I'm interested to see how it does at 300 yds and beyond. I've got a spot out back to stretch to 400 and my tower stand overlooks it. I rarely if ever practice beyond 200, but want to be able to at least take a 400 yd shot with some reasonable proficiency. Not necessarily in a hunting situation, but just to have the skill to do it.
  9. My Monday at work magically freed up to allow me a casual start. Looking forward to meeting everyone that can make it. Pygmy is bringing me as his date. We'll be repping the Steuben chapter.
  10. I miss Creekside. When did they close? Seems like mid to late 90's?
  11. Awesome! The very first concert I ever attended was Robin Trower, Golden Earring and Black Oak Arkansas at the Dome Arena in Henrietta, NY. Radar Love was just getting airplay, so I believe it was 1973 (had to look it up). Memory Lane!
  12. First time I saw it, I thought, who the heck would buy that? A few weeks later, I did.
  13. Damn, I overpaid! I started in '92 for 700/acre, last was in '07 for 1000/acre. I've been to your place Greg, the area and landscape is almost identical to my area. I should have hired you as my agent back in "92!!
  14. That sucks about Beikircks, they'll be missed for sure. Even the 21 thing doesn't bother me. It's their store, they can do what they want. It's the fact that they hired professional lobbyists to lobby politicians in Washington to ban certain guns and magazines. They're using the profits on their sales to directly pay those lobbyists. For me, it just feels like giving money out of my wallet directly to Cuomo and Bloomberg to generate another SAFE-act.
  15. I don't mind the AR discontinuation at all. A lot of gun seller don't mess with an AR platform. My only beef is the part about using my money to pay lobbyists that actively work to restrict my rights to a hobby that I enjoy. When the heck did Beikircks close??? That's a surprise to me. That was great store!
  16. Exactly Steve! Years ago I had permission on a place in Steuben County. Used to drive a 4 hour round trip from Monroe County to hunt. Sometimes just for the afternoon sit. Fell in love with the area and bought parcels from the farmer when they put them up for sale to raise money for various stuff. Couldn't really afford it at the time but took loans (paid interest), Borrowed on my 401k (lost earnings) and did without to get it. Built a house on it 10 years ago and now pay bukoo taxes on it. In fact, the cumulative taxes have now totaled way more than the original land purchase price. Almost double. I guess I'm a terrible investor and will work a bit longer before retirement because of it. Might even sell it at some point in retirement just to escape the tax burden. But you know what? No regrets. I wake up and hear the coyotes sing, I watch the fawns from the living room, and walk out my door to hunt. I almost don't ever hunt anywhere else anymore. I'm a terrible investor but I'll be dead in 30-ish years and nobody will give a crap about anything I did. You live life only once.
  17. I like your analysis a whole lot better than the CNN article I posted! What does a certain someone refer to CNN as?
  18. I see the Ithaca Bakery logo on your cup - I pass by there twice a day for the last 10 years and for no good reason I've never stopped there! Ever go to Shortstop Deli? It's not far from where you are now. If you like deli sandwiches I give it 4.5 stars.
  19. I was really hoping that would be true but they're doing well (bastards). I'll include the link but for those that want the abridged version and skip the read; They made their anti AR decision in February, by the end of May; Online sales up 24% Same store sales down only 2.5% Stock price surged 27% (although they were higher last year) https://money.cnn.com/2018/05/30/news/companies/dicks-sporting-goods-earnings/index.html
  20. I picked up a Savage model 12 heavy barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor last winter for another choice of deer rifle. I wanted to drop it in another stock, as the plastic stock seems chintzy. So a month or so I was looking at Boyd's stocks and saw their new At-One style. I thought it was ugly as sin the first time I saw it. I wound up not ordering anything at the time. Well, I keep going to the site to think about another style, and kept looking at the ugly one to the point that I came around to thinking it's a cool look. I ordered it last night in their "coyote" color. Should be here in about 2-3 weeks. Boyd's stocks are heavy (have one of their thumb holes on a rimfire), and the gun is heavy already so this thing should weigh in comparable to an artillery piece. I stand hunt 99.9% of the time so I just have to carry in and out, don't care that much about weight. Pic is from the website and I'm curious on opinions, looks ugly or looks good?
  21. Looking forward to this! I think I may have a bunch of corny looking name tag stickers at work that I'll grab. Will be nice to put a face to a screen name, although TF's bunny suit should pretty identifiable. I need to get some brush hogging done in the morning so I should have a pretty good appetite going for that menu I looked at online.
  22. I absolutely respect your opinion, but it's not just their political views. They are using the profits they make to hire lobbyists to fight the second amendment and advance gun control. https://www.denverpost.com/2018/05/03/dicks-sporting-goods-hires-lobbyist/ It's difficult for me to give them my money to fight me.
