  1. Might have sent the cutters in earlier and then the recovery crew after the ground hardens up a bit. For the logs anyway. The tops will create short term browse and long term cover. The previous owner logged our place before we bought it. At first I thought he ruined it. I said the land looked raped when I first saw it in the Spring. Left all the tops where they fell. But I formed that initial view on aesthetics and ease of people-walking. The hunting is at least 2X in quantity and quality post-logging. They logged it about 15 years ago so that secondary stuff is thick with 20 ft high beech tree browse now.
  2. There are probably a lot of working farms without a lot of hunters that may be interested in something like this. But leasing probably pays more than the state would allow for tax breaks.
  3. We own our land so we can hunt it, ride ATV's, harvest firewood etc. I wouldn't be swayed by money (tax breaks) in exchange for having strangers in our woods.
  4. My number 1 buck lost all the tines on one side, just a main beam on his right side now - we're going to call him handlebars and hopefully see him next year..
  5. No, I let him be. Saw a bigger 8 at the back of the field later. Long way away and past legal by the time he stepped out. Nice that he's on the target range. He's between the 50 and the 100 yd targets. I put him at about 86 &1/2 yards
  6. Let’s give this a go again this afternoon. Wife and I are on a socially distanced date night. She’s watching a different field corner about 700 yds away. Afternoon action has all been last minute stuff the past couple of nights. Neither one of us took a deer yet. Each have a buck and doe tag to spend.
  7. Congratulations Moog! I have a matching scar between my eyebrows.
  8. Thats awesome! Especially that she called for the shot. Congratulations!
  9. I stayed dry in the tower and our daughter sat in our hidden field about 700 yds away. She’s an out of state hunter so she got her first doe tag in her hunting career this year. Filled it at about 4:00 pm. So happy for her. She took a New York 8 pointer and doe, and also got her first archery deer in NJ.
  10. So last night I sat in my tower and saw 17 deer. One was a small buck, and a bunch of does. Then near last light a nice buck showed at 400 yds. Too far for me to confidently shoot. I sat in the back of the field tonight, same stand I took my doe from a couple of weeks ago. Saw zero deer, WTF. Gentle breeze was in my face. I thought last nights buck may have walked in front of the cam in that corner so I pulled the card on the way out. I don’t know what’s up with the right side of his rack (broken off I guess), but I saw three long tines on the left side. I’d like to see him again.
