    Fish Stress

Under the best conditions there’s about a 15% mortality rate with C&R. Goes way up for trout when the water temp is over high 60s. But if you want to keep and eat fish, look to the East. Ikijime is the Japanese way of killing fish that ensures the flesh is as preserved as it can be. “Killing the fish without the flesh knowing it’s dead.” Basically, you kill it within a minute of being caught with a spike to the brain and then put it in a slurry of ice and water. http://www.ikijime.com
  2. Sorry. I can’t abide any bowling talk that doesn’t include “Square Earl” Anthony, the patron saint of all lefty bowlers. Here he is against “Disco” Ernie Schlegel.
  3. This is a long video from the UCSF but it talks about transmission. What I found interesting was the suggestion that severity of infection was often dependent on viral load. There's a timeline menu so you can skip ahead.
  4. Maybe. Her team of doctors said some of her veins or arteries had expanded putting pressure on certain nerves which affected one side of her body, As one nasty aspect of this disease is clotting, that may make sense.
  5. Not very kind of you to talk about Rattler that way. Reported!
  6. But then you and I wouldn't have "met" and the world would be a little duller.
  7. Yeah, the shithole that is Canada. It’s a miracle I got out alive. I’m at a cabin in the woods where I’ve been since March 15. I spend every day outside in the woods. Don’t have a TV. I’m calm. But also realistic. And cautious.
  8. As a master of hyperbole, I appreciate your mad skills. It wasn't banned, it was restricted for clinical use. In regards to Houston, all I said what they ordered trucks. Whether for need or caution remains to be seen. You took that to mean something else. I think you mean "fewer". I wake up like Dicky Fox. Song in my heart; spring in my step. Then I read the news.
  9. Thanks. I'm doing that to some extent. What you can't see in the last little cut are the brush piles to the left and far right which I hope will push them through the blackberry and into the clearing on the way down the ridge and to the water source. The first larger cut in retrospect just has too many downed trees to deal with. I did the best I could but it still looks like a tornado hit it. Just ID'd another spot on top of my ridge where a few trails intersect. There are some black cherries up there, so I may release those and put up another stand. That's it for tree stands. Then I have another area at the bottom of the ridge where I'm putting in a ground blind. Good spot, lots of travel up and down.
  10. You said "banned" and now it's "restricted". Not exactly the same. What Cuomo did was limit it to stop hoarding that was going on in other states: New York: Executive Order from Gov. Andrew Cuomo restricting dispensing: • Bans pharmacists from dispensing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine except: o When written as prescribed for a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)- approved indication; or o As part of a state approved clinical trial related to COVID-19 for a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19 ▪ Positive COVID-19 test result must be documented as part of the prescription. • Prohibits use of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine for experimental or prophylactic use. • Any permitted prescription is limited to one 14-day prescription with no refills. "Spew"? That's an ugly word. I said they've ordered refrigerated trucks as their morgues are being overwhelmed. And they're not alone. https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2020/07/14/texas-is-among-several-us-states-requesting-refrigerated-trucks-as-morgues-reach-capacity/ Cancer isn't contagious.
  11. It's fantastic considering the alternative.
  12. I'm not sure wearing a 4" piece of cloth across my face to protect people around me is "tip toeing" through life. But anyway, I'll take as much life as I can get ...
  13. When was it banned in NY? Rooting for it? No. I’m much older than you, more cynical and have a greater sense of my own mortality. As I recall you were advocating reopening by Easter. Where would the state be if we had?
  14. I don't know about how rare continuing issues are. I hope I'm wrong. I see that Houston has just prepared a number of refrigerated trucks. I don't think they're for ice cream.
  15. I don't think it's as simple as, "if you don't die, you're golden." There are people who will now have life-long issues either with lungs or other major organs. My friend - 40s, healthy, no comorbidities, is still weak and slightly paralyzed on one side of her face. It's been four months for her.
  16. Really? I have a few thousand so may try that. Thanks. Cleared up another patch that was choking out the forest floor. Blackberry at the far end of this patch that the deer has been grazing. There are two deer trails that intersect here. Moved a stand to the edge - I'm standing about six feet from the base of the stand and it's 20' to the centre of this clearing.
  17. The numbers are about to get better! The Trump administration is now ordering hospitals to send coronavirus patient data to a database in Washington, DC as part of a new initiative that may bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to a report from The New York Times published on Tuesday. Maybe not all numbers.
  18. My problem isn't the 2' saplings. It's 20' trees that are choking all the sun from the forest floor.
  19. Cleared another patch. These striped maples are like the Lernaean Hydra. I no sooner cut down 10 then turn around to find that another 20 have grown. This may be the purpose my life has been missing.
  20. How much popcorn weight do you estimate you've put on lately?
