  1. Do you think he shaves his head to stop the sound of the wind rustling his hair?
  2. So hold steady until they perfect lasers? More than anyone wanted to know about the rotation of a single bevel broadhead in flesh.
  3. Has anyone used Strickland Helix? Single bevel (right or left) that works in conjunction with your fletching to rotate the arrow in flight and upon contact. Apparently you have to back rotate them to remove from a target. http://www.stricklandsarchery.com/helix.aspx
  4. I enjoyed watching that and I hate hunting videos. Agree with the poster that it makes you feel like you're in the tree. I would consider losing the talking at the end as I find it destroyed the magic of the hunt. Though you see him, Primitive Technology's videos are a good example of the power of silence. You can save your "voice" for the comment section. Good luck.
  5. Good info. Thanks. Maybe worth investing in chainsaw chaps and ear protection? (Speaking from experience and what can happen in a momentary lapse of attention.)

  7. @UpStateRedNeck Did you order your size? I’m 6’ 185 and usually take a L but not sure if I should up it to XL. Could order both I guess, but thats a pain in the ass for both parties.
  8. Kuiu is having a small sale. Mostly bags but a jacket and pants as well. https://www.kuiu.com/fallpack-sale-2019/?trk_msg=IO0HQ42RR3IKPFNDO38TJPEGNK&trk_contact=PD8F38KQKHOKO887G1UV16U3N8&trk_sid=5P2Q7JF0V7GH6B23JL5J9SE9HK&bxid=8434942125F664F9E4D4646FD6&utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=kuiu-get-geared-up-for-fall&utm_campaign=Fall+Sale+Starts+Now%3a+Up+to+30%+Off
  9. I find it odd that hunters would go to extreme lengths to wash their clothes and bodies to disguise their scent, purchase expensive clothing to mimic their surrounds, trudge through the woods in darkness to better be in position at daybreak, not to mention spend hours upon weeks upon years practicing their aim, yet won’t spend 15 minutes ensuring that the only point of contact between all that effort and their goal is as perfect as possible.
  10. You guys know it was a stunt, right? Or does the screw up your narrative. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/04/nyregion/aoc-babies.html
  11. Good article. Liked what he was saying. Doing a little research it seems that the only knock is that the clothes were designed for mountain walking and stalking, and may not be the best choice for stand sitting. Can anyone speak to the ass-sitting warmth of Kuiu?
  12. Interesting article on their camp development. https://www.outsideonline.com/2096506/meet-man-whos-reinventing-camouflage
  13. NWT Browning Hell's Canyon Tommy Boy Mossy Oak Break-Up Country Insulated Jacket - large. Nice jacket, seems to be fairly warm and light as a feather (no feathers) with elastic extended cuffs for full extension. Ample room for layering. Retail $199 sell for $50 shipped. NWT Browning Hell's Canyon Mercury Scent Control Pant in Realtree Xtra - 36" A generous 36" it could easily fit a 38", but with layering the 36" should be fine for those looking for that size. One of the nice features are the two zippers that go from hem to the lower thigh. Plenty of space for large rubber boots or heavy layering. Retail $149 sell for $30 shipped. Buy both for $70 shipped.
  14. Hmmm, just had Browning Hells Canyon jacket and pants delivered in Real Tree (or maybe Mossy Oak). Well reviewed but just not for me. Massively discounted so not sure if they'll take them back. Look for them in the classifieds. Insulated shell (L) and scent pants (36"). Am now relooking at Kuiu.
  15. Who goes out into the world with a dull knife?
  16. I think those are more properly, "rat tail files". I wouldn't use one to sharpen a flat edge. "Bastard files" are rectangular and typically somewhere in the middle between rough and fine work. Some say the name came from heraldry as noble bastards had a barre sinister across their shields. Which is as cool an explanation as any.
  17. I've been looking at it for a while but that verde pattern for our woods throws me. Am I overthinking it?
  18. There’s something to be said for desensitizing or compartmentalizing trauma like this. He (forgive me) kept his head as did his partners. That saved his life. The picture is tough. You can just see his eye staring back at the camera. What was he thinking ... “how bad is it?”
  19. His rifle was slung as he was putting a camera away. I think you need shoulder mounted lasers like the Predator.
  20. I'm not sure why I'm posting this. Maybe because I am pretty shocked and it takes a lot to surprise me. A few years ago, a couple of guys were on a bear hunt in Alaska and tracking a bear. They didn't realize that the bear flanked them and as they passed it attacked from behind. The bear covered 70 feet in 9 steps, reached up and tore the guy's face off. Literally. He survived but had to stay awake during the evac to keep his trachea open to breathe. He had to reach in and remove "stuff" to keep it clear. I'm astounded at his will to live. He was a paramedic which must have played a huge factor. There are before and after pics here. FAIR WARNING - these are shocking. http://americanshootingjournal.com/man-survives-bear-attack-but-loses-face/ Damn.
  21. Not when you run with yakety sax playing in your head. My thumb is swollen with a few blood blisters but I'll survive.
