  1. I'm across the river in 4O and I spend a lot of time in Andes and Bovina. Can't speak to the hunting but can recommend restaurants and give you general lay-of-the-land info if you're new to the area. DM me.
  2. So, my wife is at the camp and decided to collect some berries with a friend. Hit the bramble and startled a large bear. She texted me ... "we're going to need a bigger gun."
  3. If you have the time ... https://www.hearth.com/talk/forums/the-hearth-room-wood-stoves-and-fireplaces.6/
  4. Met with Nick today. First off, cool shop and the taxidermy ... wow. First time I've seen an elephant mount. Happy to hear that I'm further along than I thought I was. Nick had a few tips and we dialed in a point weight and spine. The rest is going to be more shooting, where I have been lax. He also suggested going to Proline for the times I'm in the city. I may head there this weekend. Thanks, @Bionic
  5. Really? That’s so cool. Wish I had a camera on it. Thanks.
  6. That would make sense. I’ve seen deer bed there but this looks more like a crop circle. Too isolated for a random human. Very weird.
  7. Clearing a path and came across a patch of bramble that was flattened. Approx 25’ round and completely flat. Deer? Bear? Aliens?
  8. I don't know which side is bionic but was/is it the dominant side? Did you have to switch?
  9. This reminds me of Dr. Kubler-Ross’ Five Stages of Grief when facing a terminal illness: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance; and this old animated short Me, I’d like to go out like Roy Scheider as Joe Gideon as Bob Fosse at the end of All That Jazz with Ben Vereen singing me out broadway style
  10. Throw, bat and shoot rifle left. Write, pistol shoot and make a move on a girl right.
  11. Genetic time bombs aside - getting thin, rolling with the punches and laughing everyday seems to be the ticket to a long life.
  12. Damn. So sorry. A couple of years ago, my wife walked into a chainsaw that I was holding. I thank the gods that it was only 130 stitches to her knee and missed everything important. I still shudder when I think of it. Best of luck to her.
  13. @Bionic Thanks for the recommendation. Talked to Nick and and all set. Nice guy on the phone and will get up or down to him soon.
  14. This looks like it might be best. I've seen the signs along the 17 for a few years now. @Bionic Do you have personal experience with them?
  15. Hey - can anyone recommend a coach between NYC and Delaware County? I want to tighten a few things up before archery season. Thanks.
  16. Tim Hortons classic order. “I’m going to collect the loonies and toonies out of my knapsack and head to the Beer Store for a two-four. On my way back, I’ll pick us up a double-double and some Timbits, then we can have that back bacon for breakfast. If you spill your Tim’s because I’m driving 20 clicks over the speed limit, I’ll give you a serviette to use in the washroom. And don’t worry—I’ve got a mickey of vodka to put in our Caesars. Save me a seat on the chesterfield, eh?”
  17. Correction - they aren't tiny, they are what a "regular" should be. Man, I hate the way we've screwed up what is a "normal" amount of food and drink. Wonder why we're fat? Here, have 64 ounces of pop with your 2000 calorie lunch. History of the greek coffee cup or the "Anthora". Surprisingly, it was a play by a cup manufacturer to appeal to the many greek coffee vendors in the city. https://untappedcities.com/2017/06/21/nyc-fun-facts-the-story-behind-the-famous-greek-coffee-cups/
  18. This is one of the things I love about NYC. "What'll it be?" "Large coffee, milk, no sugar." "$1.75." The whole process takes 21 seconds. I lost my mind more than a few times in SF trying to order a coffee where they gave me a rundown on history of the beans, how they did in school, turn ons and pet peeves. I finally stopped one guy who was proceeding to do a pourover. "You don't have a machine?" "It only takes 7 minutes, don't you have 7 minutes?" "I do, but not for this." I left the city shortly after that.
  19. Wait, those are $1.49 each? Sign me up!
  20. Yes, all bites are not created equal, but there's no such thing as a "locking jaw". How would that work? Is there a key to unlock? Combination? I have probably had 20 or so pits on a suit or arm sleeve. Another 20 bullbreeds - Corsos, Am Bulls, Presas, Neos, Rotts - and the hardest biters were GSDs and large Mals. Size of head, length of muzzle and drive are what make a hard biter. Agreed.
  21. There's some evidence that suggests the descriptor "lap dog" was coined for what these small dogs did when the ladies of leisure were alone with them. Anyway, I don't feel like defending pitbulls all night so I'll bow out and leave you with a quote from the great Groucho Marx ~ "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's just too dark to read."
  22. Was the guy selling him a shepherd? Intelligence is a difficult thing to identify in dogs. Tractability is better but even that falls short. Which breed is wired to go nuts? Under what circumstances? But if you're point is that most people shouldn't keep pits. I concur. Or own Labs unless they duck hunt. Huskies unless they sled. Greyhounds unless they course. Donald McCaig, a sheep dog trainer, competitor and author, once said that it is the height of cruelty to keep a border collie as a pet.
