  1. On Sunday I found a perfect spot for ground blind - a bunch of windblown trees has fallen between two upright trees creating the start of a wall just 10 yards off a game trail. I started breaking limbs and stacking the wood when I heard the buzz. A few moment later I felt the stings. Ran all the way home.
  2. You guys have clearly never been to the Pennsylvanian Alps. And DeNiro is ambidextrous.
  3. You are aware that it’s a dramatic movie, right? It’s all pretend? That they didn’t use live rounds during the Russian roulette scenes? Whether they used a stag or elk to make the dramatic point is irrelevant. What’s important in the hunting scenes is the gearing up in the car. TDH is a masterpiece of filmmaking. If “Hollywood” felt that “they” could make money with a hunting movie, there would be a new one every week.
  4. You really have a parrot? I had my finger cut open badly by an African Grey in Sweden. Hate that sonofabitch.
  5. You buy the NYT just for your parrot cage? You’re a loving parrot pappy. Can’t find the link so it may not be up yet.
  6. You have a parrot that can read? That’s cool. I had a parrot that sang, “I Gotta be Me.” I just skimmed it but I think you’ll like the article.
  7. My guess is that he took 10k and his “lawyer” took 8k. That’s the even more screwed up part.
  8. @Rattler Did you see the front page of the NYT’s business section today? Big article on the economic boom from fracking.
  9. Sometimes ins co can be good guys on your side. Two years ago my wife gently rear ended a guy in Harlem. 100% her fault. By gently, there was no damage to his car and a small dent in her plastic bumper. He got out of the car and ignored her asking if he was okay and just looked at his bumper. He then got back into the car and called the EMT. When they and the cops arrived he gingerly got out of the car, this time with a cane. A few weeks later she received notice of a lawsuit for 5 million dollars. Pain and suffering. Our insurance told us not to sweat it and a month later they settled for 18k. Our rates stayed the same. Anyway, dispute it.
  10. I regret not buying s set of matching pants and jacket when I came across them at a garage sale. I have a similar coat that I use for warmth and tradition. Does anyone else wear a ghillie suit? Was listening to a ground hunting podcast and they spoke well of them.
  11. In 1967, my family did a cross country road trip. I slept in the backseat and my little sister slept on the rear dash.
  12. Not sure that "if we contaminate your groundwater we're more than happy to provide you with Perrier" is a strong selling point.
  13. Just got mine last night. Pretty impressive for the price. I do regret getting yellow as they are very bright. Should have gone with orange. Thanks for the recommendation.
  14. I was in Toronto working on a project and heard about it on the Howard Stern show of all things. My now wife was heading to her office at Fifth and 59th. The CBS Morning Show was broadcast from her lobby and as she exited the subway she saw the crowds gathered around the TVs. The hugs. The tears. We were living in Hoboken at the time and luckily our cellphones were working so she spent the day at a friend’s apt in midtown as I monitored the news and was able to let her know that the ferries were running and she could get home. I got the first flight I could a few days later. As we circled Lower Manhattan and saw the smoke billowing up, my seat mate told me that she was heading to a funeral for her uncle who was killed when someone who jumped fell on him. About a week later, we went to a restaurant in the financial district that stayed open to feed cops and fireman. Thought we’d give them as much business as we could. The area was a ghost town as most of the businesses were boarded up and I recall looking in the window of a shoe store to see an inch of dust on everything. Looking as if it was preserved. What I imagine the aftermath of a nuclear war would look like. That New Years Eve we we’re at a party in Toronto when someone brought up 9/11. My wife burst into tears. That’s what I remember.
  15. That's what I thought. Just wasn't sure if the DEC could/would issue a general trespassing citation.
  16. Can someone clarify the role of the DEC vs local LEO when it comes to trespassing? Assuming no firearm/threat involved, but repeated trespassing, DEC or LEO?
  17. How about a prize for greatest number of unpunched tags? I just got a DMP so really have a shot.
  18. I see a quick beer sometime in our future. Last week I picked up Ray Lafever's new Bovina history book. You current and ex Bovinians may want to check it out. His blog: http://bovinanyhistory.blogspot.com/
  19. ^ Great. Maybe because 4P was my second choice she felt I would never get it. Good point about the mature forests.
  20. Not sure I followed that either. Talking to my town clerk when I got my licence last week she said that no one gets 4P but almost everyone scores 4F.
  21. As I understand it, no, but I'm always the last to know. I'm usually at Wayside on Thursdays (though not this week) if you want to grab a beer.
  22. Lots of old articles: https://www.curbed.com/2015/7/14/9941178/karrie-jacobs-home-building-upstate-new-york-aman-resort There was also talk of a casino, but I doubt that would fly. Wayside Cider is a pretty good place to grab a drink or light meal. Thursday night is local night and prices are dropped. Wild Common Wine has a great selection of wines. There's a butcher in the Andes General Store who can cut anything you want.
  23. Canada > Malaysia > NYC > SF > NYC <> Bloomville. I just got 4O with three PP. So, no wolf reintroduction?
  24. Yes, DMP are tough. Not sure if the 50 acres gives him an edge. 4F is pretty easy. Rattler, I must drive by your place all the time. Lots of friends in the area. I met the guy last week who lives on the old Gerry Estate is managing the Aman resort development proposal and behind the purchase of a lot of the buildings in Andes. Interesting conversation.
