  1. I was making reference to the fact that you should use whatever you feel most comfortable handling and trained to use. Some women might not be able to shoot a 45ACP accurately.
  2. Don't have a handgun license so I'm forced to use my 12 gauge. Let me apologize to intruders in advance...the law won't allow me to use anything weaker on you. Blame the legal system instead of me.
  3. It's better to put 3 rounds of 22LR into their chest than to put 2 rounds of 45ACP into your dry wall.
  4. Read the book "Stopping Power" by Evan Marshall. He collected actual data from guns shootings over the course of 25 years. His data is based on shot that hit the main torso. Ignoring shot that hit the limbs or shots that completely missed. The 22LR still has an extremely high rate of success (of course not as successful as a 12 gauge shotgun which had the highest). The reason being is that everyone will bring up the coked out crack addict who is impervious to pain but those incidences are so rare. Most break ins are opportunist looking for a quick and easy target. The phenomenon he points to, he calls the psychological stop. No criminal will take bullet wound and immediately think "oh, that was just a 22LR that hit me, I'm going to continue and go after this guy because I don't really care if my body gets disfigured by a few 22LR bullet holes". Most criminals will only know they are being shot at and run. Now, if the criminal is truly so drugged out, a few rounds of 22LR won't stop them but neither will a .380 or 9mm, etc. based on the data he collected. A 12 gauge shotgun slug though, had a 98% success rate.
  5. You're measuring one of the lightest loads for a 30-06 to one of the heaviest for 243 though.
  6. I don't have a problem with it and enjoy shooting it. I trust myself around it. I'm just saying the design isn't conducive to teaching gun safety...particularly when trying to teach children.
  7. I thought about the Marlin Guide Gun as well. Figured it was fun to shoot. But then I realize as a plinking gun, the cost of ammo and the recoil just wasn't worth it so I went with a Henry in 22LR. Really fun to shoot but I agree with Pygmy. I don't understand the tube feed from the top. That means every time I reload, my fingers are in front of the muzzle with is counter-intuitive to proper gun safety. Might want to look into a 30-30 as well. Don't really need much more than that to take any big game NY not named Bullwrinkle.
  8. Are we to believe that their famous family and wealthy kin (Jewel) did not provide in any way?
  9. "Cocaine is one hell of a drug!"
  10. Had a small game hunter with a shotgun walk right up this valley we were expecting the deer to come down once while bow hunting Westchester. Didn't see any deer that day.
  11. I watch Survival: Alaska and enjoy it even though the show is so scripted and fake it isn't even funny. The contestants will hike and all of a sudden come to a cliff and decide to rappel down would be the quickest way. All of a sudden they have safety helmets on when leading up to the cliff, they never had any. Or when they accidentally fall into the river, there just so happens to be an underwater camera there to capture the fall right when it happens. Still it's entertaining to watch.
  12. If Rick Barry ever followed the "proper" way to shoot a free throw he would never had broken so many free throw records. I will still teach people to people to shoot a free throw the proper way but I understand some people are just unique. That's what makes us human. PS: For those who don't know, Rick Barry shoots his free throws with two hands, under handed (like the way a toddler would roll a ball in bowling).
  13. I'm always skeptical of getting legal advice from sport shops (especially large chains) unless I know the person. Often, these shops will hire an assistant to help out in the store but they are not required to be all that knowledgeable about the laws. There are some shops I go to enough and I talk to them enough to know that they know what they're talking about.
  14. Oh, ok. For a moment there I though you might have been the one with the camera.
  15. Wait...you have inside info on two guys having sexual intercourse with cows but you can't share? I'm going to have to keep an eye on you Culver.
  16. Rationally speaking, Piers Morgan's down fall was the fact that he always pushed his opinions and never allowed his quest to speak if he disagreed with their opinions. Unlike Larry King (or any other interviewer who acted with any kind of professionalism) who would solicit opinions with a completely unbiased stance. Piers invited several pro-gun enthusiast onto his show and every show was the same...it was Piers yelling at them and they never got a chance to talk. That is where he failed as a journalist. Why he got hired in the first place was beyond me. His career track was on the journalism side is littered with shady activities and false reporting.
  17. Just as Americans signed a petition to send him back to the UK, a bunch of people from the UK actually started a petition refusing to take him back. No joke.
  18. My question to those who want to test their limits as far as shooting at longer and longer distances. How exactly does a live reactive target do to enhance this challenge that a steel or paper target doesn't? It's not like you're pulling the trigger when it's moving. You're waiting for it to stop. Essentially you're waiting for it to become more like a stationary inanimate object anyway. The only difference between a stationary live animal and a paper target is that the animal can detect you. If you just want to try and pull the longest shot you've ever tried, then that's just shooting. Not hunting. Hunting, you're challenging your skills against an animals superior skills to detect you. Shooting it from 300-400 yards out, that's not really challenging the animals detection abilities. I could understand it if you've spent thousands of dollars on a hunt and that trophy is on the other side of the ridge and you don't want to let it get away. But if you can get closer but you don't want to? That I don't understand.
  19. NFA-ADK - good point on 500 lbs animals versus smaller animals that are faster and smaller targets.
  20. This seems like a nice recipe. Looking at the pictures, it looks delicious! http://themeateater.com/2014/braised-duck-in-sweet-guinness-honey-sauce/
  21. By money and travel not being a factor, I assume I'm a multimillionaire and a man of leisure.
