Picked it up in the Hellcat lol

I figured I would get something that the current powers that be wouldn’t want me to get with part of my gubbement stimulus. So I headed off to Runnings to see what they had in stock, if anything, and they didn’t disappoint. They had just what I have been looking for, a Springfield Hellcat 9mm. It’s a great pistol for CC, nice and small, thin, light weight and plenty of capacity at 10+1. I grabbed some extra mags, and was able to get a box of target loads and a small box of Critical Defence as well. I ordered a very nice IWB holster for it, which is supposed to be here Monday.

Tube taps and collection/storage containers were my upgrades this year. A larger pan with a bottom drain and synthetic filters will be upgrades next year. I try To add and upgrade a little each year that I do It.

That’s a nice little tool, gonna have to save that one.

Wont change it enough to notice though they will be just a hair taller.

Stairway to syrup lol

Pretty much. It’s not hard, just time consuming. Kinda like processing your own deer or growing a garden.

Here we have it! 5 pints of nice dark amber, which is how I like It. I’m not a light and fancy guy lol.

Last time I did it, my syrup was dark, but very good. I didnt have any issues with crystals that I can remember. This batch looks like it will be dark as well, so I’m thinking you’re right about the boiling time. I have Filtered mine using double coffee filters while it’s still steaming a bit. Not sure of the exact temp. I put 2 gallons in the fridge just now after letting it cool a bit more. I’ll do my finish boil later today after I get Some sleep. Once it’s done I’m going to can it in some mason jars and set it aside. I’m hoping the upcoming cold temps are going to keep the sap running a bit more so I can do another boil. Who knows though.

For me I guess It will all depend on how many trees I end up tapping next year. I’m working with 4 trees, 8 taps this year. Last time I did This it was 3 trees, 4 taps. I have 4 more trees near the house that I can tap next year. 3 will take 2 taps and the other will be a single. I could do it at about the same rate if I boil 2 pots at the same time, but that might be a pain. Maybe I’ll just get a bigger pan and run it off of the 2 burners I have. I dunno

A little after 4am and I just added the last of the sap to the pot. It’s not doing too bad, I started around 1:30 yesterday and had 23-24 gallons of sap and there’s 5 gallons in the pot currently boiling. I’m thinking an hour or two more and I should have it down far enough that I can let it cool down and put it in the fridge to filter and finish after I get some sleep. Part of me wants to get a larger pan to speed the process up, the other part of me likes doing it this way.

Oh man, that sounds amazing! Have you done that before or is it an experiment?

That sucks mowin, sorry to hear it. I went to get started eelarlier and found out my regulator was broken on my old fryer burner so off to Home Depot I went. Couldn’t find a regulator so I bought A new fryer. Damn thing had a 15 min timer that I had To modify to disable. Also ordered a replacement regulator for the old burner from Amazon, so when it gets here tomorrow I’ll have 2 burners running. the boil has begun for me. Gonna be a long night.

Yep, can you believe it? I want to say that was about 6 or 7 years ago. Evan will be 10 this year. here they are from last summer, last time I got A pic of them together.

Just returned from my sons hockey tournament. I had My daughter collecting while I was Gone, and she forgot to empty the buckets twice, so they were over flowing and she spilled a lot trying to fill containers, but I ended Up with about 16 gallons anyway. Tough to keep a 17 year old on track when it’s her first time staying home alone while dads out of town lol. Had another shipment of containers come in, I’m hoping to fill one more today and tomorrow morning and I’ll start my first boil tomorrow afternoon.

That’s about enough of this one. Points have been made and there’s no reason to continue the nonsense. Even though that meme doesn’t violate the rule, the next time it’s posted, that person will be gone.

See, I’ve seen the opposite as well. Forum sites that were great until they started to be run with an iron fist. People got sick of moderators nit picking every little thing, banning members for one time indiscretions and mistakes, etc etc. Also, the off topic type content keeps sites focused on seasonal type activities going in the off season. If off topic wasn’t allowed here, and all we could do is talk hunting, it would get stale and people would eventually stop posting.

That site went away due to the whole debacle with a certain guy that found a set of huge sheds and posted it. It ended up showing up in national magazines and then the guy he bought the sheds from on eBay outted the whole thing as fake. The bad exposure killed the site. Once that site was gone, John created this one.

Oh geeze, what was that guys name. That was actually a long time ago, I would say like 7 years ago. Guy was obnoxious.

Hmm. Where should I start? Anyone that follows the rules gets to stay. I dont Care if you post something I dont Agree with or like, if it doesn’t break the rules it stays. I have never Banned anyone that didn’t break the rules over and over and over. I actually have always let a lot slide, and just deleted the offending posts and not even mentioned it, both with people I get Along with and those that don’t like me. in this instance, no one posted anything that broke the rules. I dont really Care if you dont like me, but I wont Treat you any different when it comes to moderation on this site. as far as ruining the site goes, it’s going strong as ever, so there’s that. BTW, you won’t ever hurt my feelings. have a great evening.
