I have a PSE Octane and am looking to buy a Hoyt Alphamax/Alpha Burner/Maxxis this year.
-
I have had nothing but great luck with one of the local shops, Bullzeye Archery. They have great techs that get the job done right, and fast and their prices a very good. Some things I still have to buy at the big box stores because the little guys just cant compete, but for services and other things, they are great. I also had bad luck with another shop around here, Shooters Supply. Those guys almost act like they dont want to do the work or business.I have started learning a bit more about doing my own work on my bow, but to be honest, I dont really have the time at this point.

Thats a pretty nice deer. Looks to be probably a 3 1/2 year old. Another year or two and he will be a real monster! Great pics!
-
Thats an example of why you dont take a quartering to shot at a deer. Ill be the hunter got excited and let it fly when the buck looked up at them. That buck wouldnt have made it through the winter.

That almost looks like a rabbit with its ears held back.

In Livingston a nd Ontario County all we have to do is get a form from the gun shop/seller, take it to the county clerk, have the gun added to the pistol permit and they give you a purchase ticket. You then take th back to the dealer/seller and get your gun. You have to wait the waiting period at a shop or store, but you get it right away from a private seller. It took me 9 months to get my original permit to carry though. I have a plastic card permit as well.

NY crossbow bills....

Goodness gracious , are you implying that you know more than the Media Specialist for Horton ? ??? ... ??? ... ??? 30 minutes of practice and you are good to go ........... Set out my decoy at 90 yards and i'm all set . The problem with the whole thing is that it came from a "media specialist" that works for Horton. That boils down to that the guy is a professional salesman, and probably one of the better ones in the company. Its his job to make the product seem a certain way, whether its the truth or not. Im sure you have had experience with that type of thing. -

Not many people are going to use that. You might want to look at the width of the TAC15 and see if it even conforms to the law being proposed. Add on to that, its not a gun, its a bow mounted on a trigger group. -

Sounds like you put a little too much into advertising claims. Nobody is proficient with even a gun in 30 minutes. A compound or longbow could possibly be that accurate at 100 yards with enough practice, there are competitions shot all the time at that distance. Whats your point? Oh and the 405fps is measured just like a bow, with a bolt that you cant use for hunting, no broadhead, under perfect conditions and a few feet off of the end of the crossbow. You will never see those speeds in a hunting setup. -
No, the one you are talking about was another set of pics from Colorado, and you could see the CO plates on cars in the photos.

Nah, the people just wanted to see one so bad that any cat of a somewhat similar color looked like one to them. They did not comprehend size compared to other objects around it. I wish I still had the link to the stories. The first story was the news organization reporting the ML sighting, the second was where they went and verified the measurements and discovered it was a kitty cat.

Ask any truly proficient shooter how much time they spend on the range then tell me its a matter of looking through a scope and pulling the trigger. As far as crossbows go, most of the challenge of bow season is getting close enough to deer to get a shot, make sure there are no branches, etc in the way, get the bow up without the deer seeing (a crossbow is a heck of alot bulkier and not even close to being as maneuverable as a rifle or shotgun) and having an intimate knowledge of how your bow shoots. All of the same things apply to crossbows, you just dont have to practice quite as much. I would never hunt with a crossbow that I dont practice with on a regular basis. I dont hunt with a gun that I dont practice with. I am on the gun range at least once a month shooting. -
No, you can verify by photo or video, you just need to go to the same spot and get measurements of objects near the animal in question for a frame of reference. There was a reported Mountain Lion in the southern tier last year with a picture and everything. The news agency went back to the spot and took measurements which showed that the animal in the picture was a house cat. If there is one killed in NY, verifying that it was killed here would be pretty simple if its true. DNA testing can verify whether its a wild cat or not, the DNA in captive animals is very very similar to one another due to inbreeding, a wild cat would not show those signs.

Just because I read something doesnt mean Im going to respond to it. I may not even have an opinion on the subject or I might just be looking at responses or following a conversation. If I just wanted to peek, I wouldnt bother joining, Id just look as a guest.

Hey look, the Colorado porch kitty again! The day someone provides verifiable evidence of a wild Mountain Lion in NY, Ill eat my words and admit Im wrong. The keywords in that statement are verifiable and wild.

I like variety. My current deer arsenal consists of a compound, handgun, rifle and shotgun. A recurve has been on my list of tools to buy and now a crossbow will be added to that list. As long as I can make an ethical kill with it, I want to be able to make the choice to use it. I have a feeling that in this day and age of budget short comings, they will sign this into law in order to add to the coffers. Im surprised they are adding crossbows to be included in the ML stamp instead of making it have its own stamp. -

While Id bring a handgun into the woods while bowhunting if it was legal, I would not do so at this point. If I did, I surely wouldnt speak of it on the internet. You are not anonymous on here or any other website. Also, openly admitting to breaking a gun law is only pouring fuel on the anti-gun lobby's fire.

I knew because I just had to re-reg my car and I kept my plates. The new ones arent $50 either, its like $10 extra unless you want to keep the same tag number.
