Lights! How do you walk into the woods in pitch darkness?
WNYBuckHunter replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
Yep, its in the regs. -
As of right now, as far as I can find, its still on the Governor's desk awaiting his signature. It was passed by the Senate. I dont think any of the state government was open today.

I wonder how long it will take them to change the battery law, you can get a pretty good amount of light out of 2 AA batteries with LED lights. -
Get used to the heat – forecaster says it’s here to stay
WNYBuckHunter replied to Mr VJP's topic in General Chit Chat
The heat today has been up there, but I used to live in FL, so it wasnt that bad, I used to work outside in this stuff all the time. The guy I was supposed to golf with today cancelled because "its too hot out". LOL what a wuss. -
send letters for crossbows in NY
WNYBuckHunter replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
The reverse limb crossbows wont even be legal in NY, they have to meet a minimum 17 inch width requirement under the currently proposed bill and any repeating crossbow would also fail to meet the standard requirements. Crossbows were not invented in the 70s, they are thousands of years old and their technology is not in its infancy, it is just moving forward like everything else has since the beginning of time. -
I have a Viper SS, just got it last year and I love it. I have to actually get started on the modifications to it I have planned for this season.

send letters for crossbows in NY

The funny thing is, the legislators have already said it, by the number of responses to the issue that they receive, the overwhelming majority are in favor of corssbows. All these guys that keep saying no, are going to be severely disappointed WHEN (not if) crossbows become legal in NY. Face it guys, you will have the same choice as everyone else, to use a crossbow or not. I find it pretty funny that the same guys that oppose crossbows because of a perceived advantage dont say anything in opposition to rifles vs shotguns, where there is an absolute advantage. -
My honeyhole plot 2010 edition...
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
No pics of the hole lol. I made a diagram of the area the first year I put a plot in, but I have no clue where that went. Its basically a small plot I put in under a bunch of overgrown apple trees in the back corner of my father's property. The corner is closed in on three sides, 2 are hedgerows and the 3rd is a pond with lots of scrub around the edge. on the other side of one hedgerow is a large alfalfa field. The whole thing is situated in a draw that the deer use as a major travel corridor between woods/bedding area and their feeding areas. Its a great spot and I use the food plot mostly to try and get the deer to stop in before they hit the big fields and get pictures of them. Most of my trailcam pics come from that spot. -

I have a headlight that I use most of the time, but carry a handheld flashlight for tracking, etc. -
Lets see, my pack contents change based on how long I plan on being out there. Usually it contains: -knife -extra safety harness -drag rope -napkins or TP -2 pens -small zip ties -brush cutter/saw -extra gloves -calls -snacks -drink -monopod (unless bow hunting) -extra release (when bowhunting) -extra screw in tree hangers -flashlight -cell phone Couyld be a few other things depending.

Willing to what? Gut a deer? I need to start hunting with you lol. I could bank a good amount because I have no reservations about it.

In a hunting situation? Probably 40 or 45 yards if the conditions are right.

Aynone have an ATV accident ?
WNYBuckHunter replied to fasteddie's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Except for the last few years, Ive been riding ATVs and dirtbikes since I was a kid. I raced them a bit in my younger years as well. Ive had too many accidents to count. Everything from tipping them over to having them roll over me while attempting hill climbs to coming off of them in the middle of a jump and having them land on me. Its all part of the game. My 6 year old daughter rides as well and she had an accident the first year she rode. Tipped it over going to fast around a corner and gave herself a good bloody nose and bruise on the face. She still enjoys it and knows that bumps and bruises come with the territory. -
I started work on my plot yesterday, got the fertilizer spread and tilled it in. Im going to get the seed and plant next weekend. This year Im going to go with Secret Spot with some turnip seed mixed in. After experimenting with what works good in a shady plot (mine is pretty shady) thats what I have found to work the best.

No Butt-Out tool needed... Im not that quick, but not that far behind. I like to cut further up through the sternum so that I can cut the esophagus and windpipe easier, then you just give everything a good yank and it peels right out.

Mine is rock solid. I have had my girlfriend up there a bunch of times and we were very comfortable.

The Attack is a nice looking bow and if it shoots as well as the numbers look, it would be a pretty good piece. Go shoot one somewhere if you can before you buy it.
