No way, are you going out this season ? Vail is GMU 36. Colorado actually lowered the price on Bear tags this year from $350 to $100, so they basically forced me to buy one lol. My primary objective is an Elk, but if the opportunity presents itself I will gladly harvest a mature Bear. Deer tag is a buck tag, I have heard that Muleys are sorta dumb. Ill believe it when I see it, I am still a skeptic. I am hoping to bring home a giant! Make my white tail mounts look small lol Do you normally see Elk's in heards 2nd Rifle or more solo? Thanks for the info

Funny enough Biz, but the guys I am going with have stayed in tents before and in a Condo in Vail. They said the Condo, hot-tub and local eye candy they would never stay in a tent again. With this being such a big hunt for me I really pushed for hiring an outfitter to take us miles in off the beaten paths and camp there, but they had no interest. O well I will probably enjoy the hot tub after a long day of hunting lol I have lined up a taxidermist, and butcher ( butcher will store the meat for $10 a day also until we head home which is very helpful) I have never been on bowsite...is there a certain site for CO or just bowsite.com your talking about ? I will be driving, 24 hours. I will be traveling through Ohio where I have never been. I will be doing my best to keep it between the lines and looking for areas for a 2020 diy white tail hunt there.

I will be heading to Vail, Colorado during 2nd Rifle this October on a DIY public land hunt. It will be my first out of state hunt, I have an Elk, Muley and Bear tag. I have been training all summer , I am equipped with 300 WSM with 185 GR. ammo, Kuiu pack and Leupold optics. My plan is to use onXmaps, and I printed out hardcopies also. I have done my scouting via google earth and some online videos, I am sure it will be much different in person but it will be a start when I get there ( I am arriving 2 days early to scout and get acclimated to the altitude) . Any suggestions/ recommendations feel free to post !

New property/ First food plot ever

Nope, 2-3 hours West of Windsor. Looking forward to going out n checking the camera again soon to see the photos ! -
I agree with the great customer service, the troubles I have had is the yearly updates. Every time I have stopped receiving pictures I have called both companies and they stated my software needed updating. 3 hours of travel time, uploading the software to an SD card and trying to get that to download to the camera is the trouble I have had. I am no techy

I have a Spypoint, unless the buck was still or under 20 yards I could not count the points from my cell phone. When I pulled the SD card out of the camera at the end of the season, I couldn't believe the bucks I missed that I couldn't see on my cell phone due to poor quality. I have a Spartan now, $10 a month for 1000 pictures. Quality is substantially better, I would highly recommend Spartan if you have a safe spot to put it and want quality pictures. These trail cameras have necessary updates and activating, if you have a tough time with basic trail cameras don't spend your money on one- these are much more difficult.

New property/ First food plot ever

Food plot planted, I ended up planting Dean Zone Mix ( Radishes, Turnips,Collards,Sugar Beets and Crimson Clover) It is not pretty, but I am real proud of myself with limited time and equipment. I planted this about 2 weeks ago, I havnt gotten any bucks on camera yet. But I have gotten 2 Bears passing by, so that’s pretty cool. This process was easier then I though it would be, I am already planning to double the size next year to an acre and a small watering hole. Photo 3 is a before and after pic Photo 2 is the plot 2 weeks after planting -
Same buck ! Same mark on right ear 3/4 of the way up the ear. 4 year old

Just sharing my story if any one is home looking to feed there white tail addiction through the computer until the season is upon us, like I find myself doing a lot ! This property has been un managed since the 1960's, so when I say it was so thick you can't walk through the under growth of dog wood/honey suckle/Alder and many other bushes ( most ranging 5-15 feet tall) I truly mean you can't walk through it. I have no equipment so I knew my only chance to get a clearing with the chain saw, would be when the bushes were still dormant. The property is a 40 acre parcel and borders state land on 3 sides. I have hunter the state land next to this 40 acre parcel for approx 20 years, it is not common to go days with out seeing a deer - good days 2-4 deer. It is all forest, no oak trees to be found. I have killed many deer over the years eating pine needles or just branches, people I have brought up there have compared it to the Adirondacks ( very little food around) So after 4 days with the chain saw, I was able to clear a 1/4 acre area. Not the biggest plot by any means, but this is all I am able to accomplish this year. It will be interesting if it is big enough to have food on it during the hunting season or not. With the low deer population in the area I am confident it will be ok, but with the low amount of food in the area it will be interesting to see if the deer just stay there and eat it until there is nothing left. If thats the case I will make it larger next year. Phase 1 is complete, removal of the bushes and small trees in the area. Phase 2 soil test to come Phase 3 will be to till the ground with my old faithful rear tine Honda tiller. Phase 4 I will be plating Frigid Forage- Big N Nasty Brassicas I will get a tractor one day, for now my priority is saving funds to build a cabin in 2020 so I can use the property even more, instead of driving an hour back and forth. For now it feels great to get my hands dirty on my own property instead of just reading about it and watching guys on TV do it. I will post more pics of progression this year, I am beyond excited just to have this clearing. Best of luck with your food plots Photo 1 from my tree stand Photo 2 ground level
