  1. Plow with a single bottom plow first, then disc it down. Then put the 5 foot tiller on the 504. Then till twice with the troybuilt horse to get the ground fluffed up good. Once things are planted try to till between the rows weekly but with no rain have not done so until the evening of those pics as rain was forecasted. Other than that I just use a hoe to try and stay ahead of the weeds. We still have gotten very little rain, 1/4 inch out of this supposed heavy storm system today. Oh well got the corn and carrots side dressed before the rain so maybe the fertilizer will help some. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  2. We have had no rain. Here to speak of so I've been hauling water out of the bay after work at night or before going to the woods in the mornings before work. Just trying to salvage my sad excuse for a garden this year. So far everything is at least staying green but the carrots and onions are looking bleak. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  3. congrats on one of lifes first big milestones. hard work pays off. I am sure your mom and dad have worked just as hard making sure you begin your adventure into adulthood with a solid foundation. good job mom and dad.
  4. There will only be 1 left and I already have dibs on him so nope there are no deer in pa left.....well after they go full concurrent season this year there will be a huge reduction in population again. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  5. Got this bird in to 40 yards yesterday morning hammering the whole way but altho I could see the bird and could have shot it had I had a tag and gun jason couldn't see it So with all the rain and storms yesterday until it cleared off later we were going to try and roost him. Well just as yesterday morning later we watched 7 Jake's put a whipping on him and last night saw the same thing. We had a long walk and needed a lot of time as Jason's knee issues have gotten worse as the week went on. Also there is a fresh planted field along the narrow strip of woods I intended for us to set up in. So we had to walk past our Intended set up location go around the end of the new planting and back to our set up spot as I will not walk across fresh plantings. We set up within 100 yards of last night's fight location that went on at 830 PM. Figured he should be roosted close to there. It was foggy and dead quiet but I had already told jason a hen would be roosted close by as she has been there every day since March. Finally it was full light and i see 3 hens and a Male turkey working down to the corner from the south. Completely opposite from where I expected the longbeard to be, turns out it was a jake and he walked down thru the bottom and past me at 5 yards and out in the field in front of jason and he said I have never intentionally shot a jake last day last hour I still ain't gonna shoot one. 10 minutes later we hear a gobble from up top where the longbeard roosted the day before. I give him some sweet talk and he blasts back and the 3 hens to my left crank up. We see him walk right past the tree we were sitting against yesterday. 30 minutes later jason says here he comes he is in the grass walking straight to us. He fed his way stopping occasionally to strut and at 18 yards took a full load of #5 shot to the head. Jason needed to head back to ny this morning and we figured 8 am we would have to head for camp we had 15 minutes to spare. Had a great season, I watched 8 longbeards get shot, 2 Jake's get shot by the kids and 1 longbeard my granddaughter shot from the blind I set up for her and her dad. Will have to say I am flat wore out, been scouting and hunting since late Feb early March and have not missed a woods wake up since March 1st. Little over 7000 miles on the truck chasing these crazy birds but some great memories and some disappointment as my Nebraska and Ohio hunts got cancelled Tomorrow begins 2021 spring scouting. 8. 6616 miles as of today scouting and hunting since last week of Feb. Countless hours scouting, and this particular bird was missing his middle tail feather and with the spotting scope on 48 I can count the hairs on his snood. Also run a scope on my gun so if I cant see their legs to see the spurs I let them walk unless they have a telltale body feature to verify it's the right bird. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  9. Well my buddy matt got here at camp last night and I already had a plan devised for this morning and had warned him it was gonna be a long hike up and down through 2 deep hollows to get to this gobbler. We were headed to where I listened yesterday morning and Mr. Spock was the intended target. The bird threw me a curve ball as he was roosted in the pine flats in the old strip mine. He would answer my calls but didn't want to budge and I knew he had at least the brood hen with him. We eased up next to the hidden plowed field and i saw 1 of her jennies out there. Game on!!! Got set up and got the Jenny coming in and got her up on a high point where the brood hen and the gobbler could see her. Got aggressive o. The call and he is now cutting me off and closing the distance. I see the brood hen and she is gonna walk right past matt at less than 4 yards. She makes it past him and meets up with her Jenny and they come looking for me she purrs I purr she clucks I cluck I Yelp he blasts a gobble I see the split fan coming over the rise.... He is blasting us with gobbles the 2 hens are right on top of me to the left. I see matt slowly ease up to almost a standing position and then the shot. He goes out to get the bird comes back and I go how ya like those spurs?? Lol matt looks at me funny and says howdja know? Open mr spocks tail fan he is missing the middle feather. I didn't want to tell him ahead of time in case it would psych him out lol. Got him tagged and pics taken and started our 1.5 mile walk back to the truck. Now to try and find an easy access bird for my buddy jason, he is on a 6 week recovery from a knee rebuild surgery. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk

  11. After a light gobbling morning yesterday while scouting this morning they are hammering every sound. 6 different birds hammering in the big hollow below my listening spot. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk

  13. Out for my morning listen, only hear 3 different birds here this morning but the wood ducks down on the beaver pond sure are being noisy so there must be some predator near the water. Need to head over to a new 200 acre farm I scored access on last night. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  14. Been a fun few days, called in a longbeard for a buddy and his kid that they ended up boogering up cause they couldn't sit still. Yesterday I put a loudmouth hen right in their lap for 20 minutes so they got the whole gammit of hen talk and close. This all day hunting is a joke around here, from guys whacking birds from their vehicles to late shooters...we were all standing on the porch last night devising a plan for this morning when we heard 2 shots from 2 different guns and I said well those 2 Jake's we watched heading for the island of trees at Darla's just got limb lifted! The time? 9:18 PM! And no that's not a typo and yeah there was enough light that so.eone could shoot but WELL past legal time. So this morning I decided to go way down the hollow from the gas line where I called that longbeard in the other day. I knew he roosted below the cow pasture right in the base of the hollow. An old log skidder trail would give him a open path to me if he decided to play. With a slight drizzle and overcast skies he gobbled late, after 3 gobbles with long waits in between it was finally light enough in the woods for him to feel comfy but he was 250 yards out but I didn't know where all his hens were as I only could here 5 close to him. Found out where hen number 6 was after my first series of calls as she literally knocked my hat off when she flew in and scared the crap outa me. She landed 5 feet from me and started feeding . She got out 39 yards and my next series of clucks and 2 yelps and he cut me off 100 yards out and my close hen started purring and came back to me. Within a couple minutes a train of hens came down the logging road with a white head following that was all I could see 3 hens walk past me at 6 feet as I am leaned against a big tree with multi floral roas around it just on the edge of the logging road. Finally he is in the clear of hens and lights out at 25 yards. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  15. Good gobbling action early now its quiet. Had 3 doe walk by at 10 feet in the dark Had 7 hems 3 Jake's and a 2 year old walk by at 10 yards. The big gobbler was 100 yards to my left for some reason he roosted on the field edge last night. Oh well that woulda made for a really short season. Lol Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  16. I have been trying to figure out an excuse to "have" to make trip to pa earlier than our last week turkey vacation. So one of my customers wants a custom built balcony railing and staircase railing and with what he wants I "needed" to build it in my shop in pa..that's my story and I'm sticking to it!! I got here yesterday evening and once I got the truck unloaded it was off to gather intell for this morning. I saw gobblers at all 6 properties 5 of which had multiple longbeards heading into the woods for the night. I decided I was going to hunt the co-op farm as I had unsettled business with an ivory spurred gobbler. This farm gets pounded as it's open public hunting. I parked the truck at 245 am and by 345 I was in an outside corner of the woods off a fresh drilled corn field. It finally started getting bright in the sky to the east and no gobbles close but 8 other birds gobbling that I could hear but none close. Finally it's full light and he blasts a gobble 100 yards out front just over the the steep bank. I can see him barely through the leaves but I could make out the black bump against the tree trunk. I dont know why but this bird always has roosted right tight to the tree trunk not out on the limb. He gobbles 3 more times hitting crows and I figure you better do your thing b4 he calls in another hunter. I set the bomber in my lap got the wing and knew it couldn't be a full flydown cause he would see me. Did a quick flydown while he was faced away from me and quickly grabbed the bomber as he blasted a d&l gobble at me. I did 2 really soft clucks that even I could barely hear but he gobbled and as I was setting the call down and grabbing the gun he pitched out and his feet hit the deck at 30 yards. I had to let him walk into an opening at 25 yards b4 I could see his legs in the scope to make sure it was the right bird. As soon as I saw the ivory white spurs I eased off the safety and dropped him where he stood. He is the 3rd gobbler with ivory spurs I have shot on that farm and hoping he passed those genetics along. His tail sure ain't the purtiest but he will do with 1 1/16 & 1 1/8 inch sharp spurs. 18. How fast can ya get to camp? Feel bad for the situation, like I said today when we talked I would be trying to tie up some of that surrounding property. Small parcels may be very affordable to tie up and the owners may not even know about leasing until you approach them and or they may not even know people are on their property so you can tell them you wont hunt it but would post it and patrol it. A win win for both. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  19. I buy they happy jack kennel dip II (2) For my turkey gear I fill a 5 gallon pale 1/2 full with warm water. Shake the kennel dip bottle good, Add about 4 tablespoons of kennel dip to make a cloudy white water solution. Put on rubber dish gloves and dunk each article of clothing and wring out and hang up to dry. I also dip my turkey vest after emptying everything out. Whatever solution is left I pour it through a paint filter into an old 409 spray bottle to be used to freshen up outer layers through the season. ( make sure to label the bottle tick spray) I have been doing this for years and spend many hours in the woods in a number of states and some heavily tick infested areas and I have never had a tick bite. I have watched hundreds of ticks on my clothes start walking then start doing circles and fall off dead. For bow hunting clothes I must down with the spray and then spray scent killer after that and no ticks and no issues with getti g winded by deer. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  20. Screwed by having a decoy out AGAIN. Maybe now he will understand my statement of if the decoy is in the truck you know damn well it wasn't the decoy that boogered the bird. I need to head to pa! Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk

    Waders

They all leak. I have never gotten more than a duck season out of any waders I have purchased. I have learned that wearing them in the truck certainly shortens the waterproofness of the waders in the crotch seems. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  22. Congrats on a great first bird. Kudos to Bill for helping her get her first bird, always a special moment when someo e tour helping get their first bird. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk

  24. Finished mudding drywall at 10 last night, been sitting against this ancient apple tree for an hour now and altho the songbirds are singing I have yet to hear a gobble.....their breaks are probably frozen shut. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
  25. Went with a buddy of mine to a fresh farm this morning I've never stepped foot on that dirt and as we're walking in I was thinking this is a perfect place for birds to roost and as I tapped him on the shoulder a bird gobbled 50 yards from us we eased back and further away from the bird. Got set up my buddy was adamant about using a decoy so I set that 10 yards in front of me and I moved 20 yards behind the decoy. The bird is still in the tree Goblin his fool head off and a hen starts tree talkin to my left I cover her up with a little tree talk the bird flies down as soon as his feet hit the ground I did a fly down because the whole time the bird was within sight of me and I couldn't do the fly down before he flew down. I started with some soft calling no response turn up the volume he blasts a gobble directly in front of my buddy as it clears the brush I can see the bird wondering why my buddy's not shooting. well apparently there was a limb across the birds head from where he was sitting so he had no shot and as soon as that gobbler saw that Decoy he started putting and the last I heard of him he was probably 200 yards away still putting and still running. So that was it for the gobble talk this morning we tried some trolling got no responses and finished the morning about 10. I'm going to go back tomorrow morning and listen because I did hear three other gobblers so I will try to pinpoint better locations tomorrow morning to try another hunt on Friday. Hopefully he can fill his tag Friday I'm jonesing to hear a gunshot been listening to birds every day since the 1st of March between here and PA and I'm itching to get back to PA where I can at least carry a gun there.
