  1. Nice yote. Step dad shot a 91 pound coyote last year. I didnt believe him until i went and took a look that night, thing was a monster. I thought it was a dog at first because of its size
  2. I didnt know you could hunt grouse with dogs effectivly. I thought they are too spooky and before the dog got a point on them it would take off. How does this work? Very intresting.
  3. They hunt a farm in gilbertsville up on halbert hill and a big plot of land west of that. Im not sure how much land it is but its alot. my guess is the one peice of land probably ranges from 250-300 acres.
  4. Good shooting. Keep it up and take them little pesky guys out!
  5. It was raining pretty good yesterday, but i went out and got 3. Could have had more, 4 were in one tree chasing eachother and in another there was 3 in on tree. I dont know if the rain had something to do with it, but it worked for me!
  6. AND BY THE WAY GUYS, A person can actually have up to six permits each depending on the area. 2 you get. 2 from late leftovers and 2 signed over. So to be honest, 3 people could have had those 15 deer and it would have been no problem. Just saying...
  7. I love how every Topic I post, everyone gets so up tight and jumps my gun. Is it because of my age or do you guys just like to start pissing matches? Guys im 16, i asked a simple question, thanks.
  8. I have to click, Sign up or whatever first then when it loads that page i can click sign in, and it lets me, but from the home page it will not load the sign in page unless i go to the sign up page first.
  9. Awhile back in Gilbertsville, A guy with a pack of hounds with tracking collars use to run the dogs through Gilbertsville and Chase or shoot them out of the village. They havent done that in YEARS though.
  10. I think there was like 4 guys. 4 sounds about right. Not sure, all i know is they stayed at a hotel and my dad knew them somehow and they parked their trailer at my house with their 2 ATV's and came and got them every morning. They said something about they save all their sick days up and paid vacation days, and use them come deer season, one guy had like 28 paid days off for hunting, and the other had like 31 or some crazy number like that.
  11. Hopefully I bag afew this weekend, cant hunt with the dogs this weekend, but hopefully i can bag a few being this will probably be my last weekend to hunt because I start training for my job i just was hired at the following weekend. At 16 I can only work from 4:30-7:30 during the week, but i will be working every weekend to save up for a cheap car. So my hunting will be limited very soon. Good luck to everyone.
  12. I usually see signs all over, not much this year, the dogs had to go into the piles and kick them up, didnt see any tracks on the little snow we had on the outside of the piles till the dogs chased them out.
  13. No doubt about it they are ALL OVER this year... Where I hunt, if I see one, Im letting him meet the hornady.
  14. Well, went out with the dogs on saturday, and had alot of hits on fresh tracks, ground was very soft though, many rabbits holed up. Dogs did good for the conditions, went to weigh ins at Shurburne for the contest, and won 108$ with our one rabbit. I didnt go to weigh ins because i had to go take care of one of the dogs that was all cut up from prickers and what not, had to bandage him up on the ears because for awhile i couldnt get the blood to stop, but he didnt want to stop in the woods, so my buddy went to the truck and grabbed some tape and put it over the cut on his ears and they finally stopped. But he called me and let me know we won 108$ with the rabbit scott shot. Got a total of 3 rabbits that day. Many hits, lots of dead ends though.
  15. I wasnt asking to help get more, i was joking about that, i wouldnt know what to do with 15 deer, nor do i want to shoot 15 deer during one hunting season, takes the fun out of it i would think. But anyways, Jonathan, do you just have a seasonal house in Gilbertsville? Just curious, My father is the cheif of the gilbertsville fire department so i was just curious to if he or i would know you.
  16. No why? And I wasnt sure thats why i was asking. And yeah they filled like 13 of the tags. Tree guy, i do not hunt this way or say it is right, i wasnt sure thats why i was asking. But thank you for the info guys.
  17. I have a few buddys from putnum and they come down every year, they came down with 15 tags this year. I asked how and they said they give their friends 10$ to apply and they go apply for doe tags down here because they dont come here to hunt and then they sign the taags to them. Seems like a good idea. Anyone else heard of this? Any guys that dont hunt out here ill give you 10$ to apply next year
  18. Ive kicked up a few grouse this year. They are really spooky this year, cant get anywhere near them without them taking off. But yeah went out again and not a single track, squirrels all over though. Talked to the neighboring house next to the land i care take a few houses down from me, she didnt want me hunting her land so i said okay no problem just figured i would ask. Well i went out the next day and was hunting the land i care take, and she was outside, and i was a good 700 yards from her house on our land, shot a few squirrels, got on the 4wheeler, started heading down to the road to go back home, she flagged me over to her, so i drove over, and boy did she give me hell. Dont you think your a little close to the house i have dogs and cats around here. I was like no ma'am i was a good 700 yards up the hill on my land. I dont give a shit she says. I was like uhmmmm okay then. I was hunting MY land (i call it my land). She goes i dont give a damn your too close to my house. I just started the 4wheeler up and said have a nice day ma'am. People are really looking down on hunting now days and its reeally starting to piss me off. But i might go out this weekend and see if i cant try my luck with some bunnys. we'll see.
  19. Never have i gone out and not seen rabbit tracks, The last 2 weekends i havent seen a single rabbit or a rabbit track. Where I hunt i almost always see a rabbit and if i dont see a rabbit i see lots of signs. Anyone else have this happening this year?
  20. Well between My Father, My Brother and I, we made away with 9 deer this year. 8 Does, and a spike with a monster body with about 6 inch sticks. We saw him walking through my spot, Ive been watching him a few years, horns have never changed, stayed the same and didnt get any longer or thicker, so we thought we would take him out of the heard because we dont want more bucks like that. I was lucky enough to take 7 doe this year. Yes all were tagged, 4 on my Grandfathers friends farm with Nuscence tags or whatever. All VERY big doe.
  21. depends on the day, the climate, the movement, and the gut feeling i have while waiting. if i have a good feeling, ill sit till dark. If i dont have a good feeling ill get up and walk around or go home. Most of the time i sit as long as it takes. What i really want to do someday and have a nice inclosed box stand, have a small scentless heater, and stay the night so that way i dont kick anything up in the morning on my way to my stand. I just think that would be fun.
  22. Many people smoke in stands, i believe on hunts like on TV where the deer are not pressured as much as they are in NY, it matters. But around here mostly during gun season the deer are constantly moving and scared of gun shots, so they are on the move. Just my opinion and my brother and dad both smoke while hunting. Ive smoked in the stand and had deer run right up to me. I mostly chew if im hunting just because of the scent of the smoke. I dont want to hear about my age and smoking im just putting my input. Thanks
