Good buck on new Browning Cam!!!

I've never used video on any of my cams. Would be kinda cool to get some scrape action on video. -
I'm a 365 day a year whitetail freak. I enjoy living deer more than dead ones and get as big of thrill in developing a history with individual bucks through trailcams/shed hunting as I do actually killing deer. This buck is an amazing animal regardless of antler size. Like I stated, I have six years of history with this particular deer which is probably something I'll never repeat. In this time, I have picked up one shed and had two encounters with him. I recently learned that a fellow forum member had him at 40 yds back in 2014. I will probably never get an opportunity to tag him and that's fine by me. I'm am very lucky to live in a productive area for big deer by NY standards. Just between this farm and the neighbors I have identified 15 bucks so far that are of the 3.5 year old shooter age. Basically, this deer is just eye candy and I'll try to focus on "more killable" deer.

Let's see...according to the last season's DEC stats: WMU 8R had a total deer take of 15.8 psm / 5.8 bucks per square mile. This is NOT a buck from the suburbs or some non-hunted city park. He has made it though 6 gun seasons in a non managed area with pretty heavy hunting pressure. I kind of think he knows how to play the game...so all I gotta say is good luck to you.

Yeah. My friend's farm is 250 acres but mostly field.

Not when you can't hunt it.

Not the greatest pic, but...Wannabe makes another first light appearance headed back to bed. Tried some editing to improve pics quality a bit. July 19th: Pretty cool...17 days of growth. He usually pours on the tine/beam length from now til around August 10th.

This is my first card pull from the new Browning 2017 Strike Force Pro HD. I must say that the daytime pics are much better than last year's model. Only a three day soak so I really didn't have many night pics to analyze, but ...overall I'm liking this cam better than my 2016 Strike Force Elite. May have to hit up Phade again to try a new blackflash model!!! As for the buck, I'm really happy with the jump this 3 year old has made from last year. Great tinelength with more to go on his G3's. Now if he's only do something about those weak brows...lol. I love getting to "know" bucks over multiple years and seeing how they change as they mature. The other buck in pic #4 also made it. Hope he shows up on cam soon, he's a stud 3 year old! Last year:

I was thinking the buck in pic 4 had the same brows as the last one. Hard to tell from the pics and not knowing the date on them. Regardless, I think I know which one you'll be looking for!

Looks like 3 different bucks. Same deer in pics 1,2,3 and 6. He's a really nice one! !!

I like my redo mount but wish I could have my original cape back. Beautiful early October hide with lots of white on the brisket. The replacement looks pretty close. I forgot the play-doh though...damn it!!!

I'm only meat hunting this year but would gladly take him out if the opportunity should present itself...lol

Definately looks better!

I'm hunting the property across the road from heron hill on the sharp corner. The alfalfa there is a deer magnet. Been seeing plenty of bucks but not that guy yet. Got this one there the other morning coming by my stand as he headed across the rd to bed below heron hill...

Awesome buck, especially if the date is correct! I'll be curious to see if he shows up on my cams?
-
I'm anticipating that he'll end up with a 5x4 frame, similar to last year but opposite...

In lue of the "Psychology of trophy bucks" thread and for obvious reasons, I've decided to keep my trail cam pics to myself this year only sharing them with a few trusted hunting buddies. But, I was very happy this morning to see that my #1 buck finally made an appearance on his way back to bed yesterday morning. I've seen him several times out here over the past couple of weeks through binos but had yet to get a quality photo of him. I call this buck "Wannabe", he is six years old and I've been watching him since he was a yearling 8pt. back in the summer of 2012. It's been really fascinating watching him mature over the past 6 years, something that I will probably never repeat. To make it through six deer seasons in this area with the heavy hunting pressure / very little "deer management" is truely unbelievable. I can't wait to see what the next several weeks will bring. He's got some buddies that aren't too shabby either. It's looking to be a great season here in Steuben County!!!
