I killed a bearded hen on 5/31/09. -
Congrats. That is a big head SOB!!!

I've never tried the nitro loads myself...but I've used the Envirometal Hevi-13 loads since 2008. Right now, the 3.5" Magnum Blends are my head wreckers of choice.

Groups not coming together... Is this why?
WNY Bowhunter replied to josephmrtn's topic in Bow Hunting
It's your arrows. It sounds as if they vary by an upwards of 80 grains!!! A difference of 3 grains in your arrow weight will effect your bows speed by 1 fps, so a difference of 80 grains will have two different arrows traveling @ speeds that are off by 27 fps. The further that you shoot the more of a difference you will see. Having mismatched arrow shafts also creates a tuning nightmare because you don't have a consistant arrow spine to work with (plus, I'm betting that they are differnt lengths too). My advice is to buy a half dozen carbon arrows, use 100 grain tips on all of them and have a local proshop set your bow up properly. -
Matched up my favorite shed from this year!!!

I think that I may try to restore the color on the shed my buddy found... -
About an hour later his shoulder was already turning black and blue!!! The gobbler didn't look too great afterwards either as my buddy had to shoot him in full strut and ended up breaking both legs and a wing... I saw several bucks over the weekend with nice new growth sprouting. My Covert cams will be going up sometime this week. Man, I can't wait to see what's gonna be around this year!!!

Thanks. I do have some good areas to hunt but don't have exclusive access to any of the properties (all of it gets pressured pretty hard). I just take my turkey hunting seriously and spend lots of time scouting and loose lots of sleep during the month of May chasing longbeards.

I'm not talking about the Remington Nitro loads...these are custom handloads from the Nitro Ammo Company from Missouri. They're not cheap and they no longer will sell to individuals from NY thanks to our idiot governor. http://nitrocompany.com/

Thanks. This season certainly has had the least amount of gobbling that I've heard in the past several years for sure.

Oops...I double posted.

I played host/guide to a buddy of mine this morning. After a grueling 2 hours of having this bird drumming within 50-60 yds of us with a hen we were able to bust a cap in his butt. The 2.5 ounces of Nitro Hevi-Shot from his 10 guage did a number on Mr. Tommy's noggin @ 40 yds. Nice 2 year old...20 lbs., 9.5" beard, 7/8" spurs This makes kill #6 for me this spring. Gotta love it...!!! The birds are still henned up big time here in my area...

We'll see how that goes...he's been like a ghost since mid-July of 2011. I did have a bunch of sighings of him last year while spotlighting. -

I just found out that another friend of mine found around 15 sheds, including a real nice 10-pt set, while plowing up a huge beanfield that I checked out. It was overwhelming looking out there and I didn't find any!!! -
I've NEVER had one on me and I'm active in the outdoors all year long.

It was Miller Lite. Actually, he was going to give it to me from the beginning, I just felt better giving him something in return... -

Maybe 300 yds. -
I stopped by yesterday to show a buddy of mine the turkey that I had just killed on his farm and he told me he had something for me. He went to his truck and pulled out the shed antler of a buck that I call "Little Freak Nasty". I had picked up his left antler back in December and had given up finding the match to it. He was out herding up cows earlier in the week and found it stuck up in the branches of an apple tree right behind the barn!!! The set has 14 scorable points with another that's broken off and 4 more stickers under an inch. He's got really awesome flattened/palmated beam tips. I ended up trading him a 30 pack of beer for it...LOL. Can't wait to see what LFN is gonna look like this year @ 4 years old!!!
