I use to take my NEF all season long but after getting my X7 this will be my go to gun in 2011 all season long.If you want to try some different bullets try Hornadys XTP in .452 250 or 300gr.You can get 50 of them for like 16 bucks. Then get yourself some Harvester Crush Rib Sabots.Check there site out at harvester.com. Another great and dirt cheap bullet is Speers Deep Curl / Gold dot in the same .452 250 or 300gr and they are about the same 16bucks for 50 and use the crush rib sabot. The no excuses is a conical and they shoot good out of my TC but some people say the QLA throws the bullet off and are not as accurate. Its has to do if the QLA is 100% perfetly center to the barrel.I have spent hours thinking about it and its a looooooooooooooooooooooong theory. I know pellets are easy and thats what I use for hunting too, just pop and go but if you get the chance to try Black Horn 209,its legit.I can get 30 shots at the range before cleaning my barrel. If I use T7 loose or pellets I swab every third shot. I wish TC never stopped making the X7,its as close to perfect as it can get.

Red is what you want but I would suspect you needed a taller front site.TC will mail you one. What loads does your x7 like. My hunting load is the fpb but the Xtp and deep curls are Sweeeet too
-
The primer carriers were nice and a good visual for safety to know if it was loaded. I got about 10 or so shots out of each one.I do a lot of shooting so they got expensive.when I switched to black horn209 I had to get the metrics unlimited plug in order to ignite it 100% all the time.

Rob1114 give TC a shout and they will mail you a taller front site no charge. Just tell them your issue.Did your X7 come with the green or red front site.If your peep was the lowest on the plain, you need a taller site.It was common with the X7 from what I have seen and read.MY X7 is a tack driver with a bunch of bullets. The latest bullet I have been testing is the .452 300gr Deep Curl / Gold dots from Speer.Awsome bullets on paper.I have not shot a deer with them but many have, dead on the spot.Curretn deer bullets is the 350gr FPB Eddie, thos NEF are great too,my heritage/sidekick willl shoot anything I load down the barrel. With the addtion of a metrics unlimitted breach pulg there is no need for those orange primer carriers. The 209 just sits in the plug like a TC or CVA plug. I hope to head to the range Friday mornig to shoot my White and some 460gr No Excuses along with some more deep curls and XTP's of out my X7

Was it the Lyman or WGRS peep site. You might need a taller front site. I had to get one from TC for my X7 . No charge of course they have great customer service.

I am pretty sure the old Winchester sabots are made by MMP which are still in production. You can check them out on line and order the sabot seperate.

There ya go,I use my muzzle loader year round but with the early and extended seasons its a great way to get out before the gun seasons start. What are you planning on shooting for powder and bullet
-
to slow on here, anyone buy a new ML loader this year... with bullet prices going up and up,I have been stocking up on black powder and XTP's I hope to try some speer deep curls / gold dots as soon as they come in.

The shots at 3 and 5 were the last of each group,my barrel was starting to get the dreaded crud ring from T7,I assume it was do to that. Steve
-
TC X7 range day,the 4 holes covered are the 300gr Hornady FPB and the 4 uncovered are the 350gr Hornady FPB all shot from 50 yards with the existing peep site. Two T7 pellets and a W209 primer. I have gotten better groups with the 350gr in my White,NEF and my TC. Not that the 300gr group is bad either. Steve

ANY HUNTER SAFETY COURSES FOR ALBANY COUNTY
sbuff replied to upstaterifle's topic in General Hunting
Clifton Park Rod n Gun just had one a few weeks ago.I think they have another coming up. -
Gordy is a great guy to deal with
-
I new they were back as of this year,I wonder if Tony Knight has any part in the company..I know a bunch of investors showed interest awhile back.If I were to buy a knight today it would be that Mountaineer.

THe MU plug is a MUST if you want to shoot BH209.You won't go back.I can't shoot the 460gr no excuses and get clover leafs all day long. You might want to try the 300 and 350gr FPB from Hornady, another great bullet for that muzzle loader.Nick from metrics unlimitted does have a new plug with more meat on the head.It really is a must have for the NEF muzzle loaders..Bubba and my self can not say nothing but good about it.BH209 is $$ but worth it.You can shoot loose or pellets of T7 or Pryodex and still get great groups with the no excuses. Yes I have seen that sight,if you search on line you will see people have issues with Frontere Gander or Mountain Devil as he goes by.I don't know him,but know he is big into CVA and there products. You should do a search or check out other forums if you want muzzle loader advice{ IMO}.The best sight I have found is modern muzzle loader.

Bubba that 10oz price? Yea I know its on there website,I bought enough at Cablelas over the summer, they had a sale of 20bucks for it.I stocked up pretty good.I have bought from Graffs and powder valley too. I was just wondering where everyone else was getting it.No place in Albany area that I am aware of has it.

I don't have a CVA wolf,if you can shoot BH209 I would use that. You may have to drill the flash hole out a little to make it work with that powder.I am not 100% sure thought.A call to CVA could tell you. You don't need 150gr or three pellets.Guys all the time do a max charge and there really is no advantage.I would start with two pellets, either Triple 7 or Pryodex to get 100grains.If your using loose start with about 70-80 gr.There are all different brands of powder.I myself like Swiss,BH209 and triple 7 pellets. If you use T7 you will get whats called a crud ring down around the breech plug.A simple cleaning with some windex will clean the barrel super clean. You might notice it harder to load after each shot as the crud will get built up. As for bullets,I like the Hornady 350gr FPB and 460gr No Excues.I think that Wolf has a tight .501 diameter, maybe a .502.You could try some 250gr Hornady SST,I know guys that use this combo with good results.Or even the TC supergildes in the same 250gr.The Barnes style sabots are top notch and I have heard nothing but Good about them.I know Power Belts are sold every where and are easy to load, but the performance on game is not that good.Yes people get deer with them, but I have proofed them and they perform by far the worst out of any bullet. The Thor bullets are good, but a little $.I guess if its a trophy of a life time $ doesn't matter as long as the bullet does the job.

Any time,if you have any questions just ask.

Its a custom made breech plug for the New England Firearms muzzle loaders, the huntsman, sidekick and heritage. They are made in the USA out of Michigan.Metrics Unlimitted is the company name.Nick Allen is the fellow who made them, several people have tested them.It will allow you to shoot BH2009 with 100% ignition...
-
Does anyone else have to keep logging in even if the log in forever box is checked. As of the past two days I must re-log in every time I go to the home page, never had to do that before?
-
It is nice to say MU plug without getting kicked off as Nick and I were the first to get banned for saying it on GBO.He has a newer version plug now out with a little more meat on the head.I just spoke to him and got another one.It is the only plug that will work 100% of the time with BH209. 1973 Hawken ,just getting broke in,like it .......Are you using a fiber wad for the no excuses or not?? My TC renegade is I think ' 84...Actually it was a kit gun when TC made them.In todays day and age,it was nice to find No Excuses for such a fair price.
-
Hunter49: If your using power belts I would look at Hornady FPB for your hunstman, they shoot lights out in my sidekick with the MU plug and a hubbards ram rod....Or even the no excuses, there are far better choices IMO out there. Pygmy: what are you shooting the No Excuses out of ?
-
I have a bunch of muzzle loader,TC renegade,TC X7,2 white super 91-11,NEF heritage which is the same as a sidekick. The sidekick has been my go to gun because it shoots clover leafs with anything I stuff down it. The TC X7 is going to be my 2011 gun this year.
