  1. In todays market any new TC , CVA or knight will do you fine. I would try to handle some and see what one fits you best. If you shoot pistol bullets and buy sabots in bulk it is a great fun way to shoot cheap and hunt with a great bullet.
  2. Tony passed away on Monday, he was the founder of Knight Rifles.
  3. It was for me , they wouldn't ship me .452 deep curls or .452 XTPs along with sabots. I commend them for the email sent , but truly wish they would have known the facts before not allowing us customers to place the orders as we have done for years. With in ten minutes of the denied order from Midway USA I placed a order for the same bullets from Powder valley { they must have been aware of the new laws } then Cabelas for sabots both with no issues. I actually got the sabots 4 days ahead of the due date from Cabelas. Steve
  4. And that is the bottom line, change is needed. Steve
  5. Midway USA denied my order of speer deep curls , xtp's and crush rib sabots today. I had to get the bullets from Powder Valley and Sabots from Cabelas . Both shipped to NYS as of 6pm or so. Not looking good Steve
  6. FMJ or hunting rounds ? thanks for the heads up.
  7. I found a few boxes on line for my mini 30 {7.62X39} but man it sure was hard as no one has them in stock . Nothing local at all around here. Guys are really ripping fellow shooters off on line for guns, the prices are double what they should be. Its a shame all around.
  8. How is the bore is there any pitting? That is a great price.......I am going to a gun show in a week ,if I don't find what I am looking for I might have to take you up on it.
  9. Try some Harvester or MMP sabots. I think the Barnes use the MMP. There is no standard in the muzzle loader industry , thats why barrels are all different diameters. From say .498 - .504 for a .50 cal.
  10. Yes the NEF is a sweet gun but as for the PB, when it is pushed to hard it will fragment big time. They are either the most loved bullet or the most hated bullet. For me , I would never use them as their are far better choices out there. When I was new to the sport I shot them , after a few tests and some far smarter muzzle loader guys then me I switched.
  11. CVA has a different breach plug then the factory breach plug if you plan on shooting bh209.Many people have modified the orginal plug to shoot bh209 if one doesn't choose to purhcase it.
  12. Hands down buy a White , best there is and build like a tank. You won't be upset. Steve
  13. More people should mark their ram rod to know when a load is in the gun ,if that is done a double load shouldn't ever happen. .Glad it worked out in your favor.
  14. Man you got me stumped. The WLVTE rod and gun club is booked at 1200 members or so. All I can think of is some public land. Pine bush for bow , black creek marsh for gun in Voreesville . In Bern you got Margeret Burke and Patridge run. Grafton Park and Mareau State Park up north. Looks like your right around the corner me in Latham, wish I could be more help. Steve
  15. nice gesture... Do you know what the turn around is now on getting a NEF barrel fitted to the frame?
  16. Barnes are good but to much $ to shoot alot of. Speer Deep Curls or Hornady XTP's are the way to go if you ask me.50 bullets for around 15bucks. Add some Harvester Sabots or MMP and your good to go. The bonded shockwave should do the trick , I do like the 300gr one's. But much prefer the deep curls and xtp's.
  17. How are you getting 120gr in pellets? I am not 100% sure of the conversion but I would say 120 in pellets is about 90-100gr loose. I think your 90gr loose would be fine to 200yards. If you get the accuracy you want with 120 in pellets don't hesitate to use that. Good luck.
  18. Are they the XTP mag or regular? I too like the 300gr grain bullets in the XTP. I don't think you will get fast enough speeds for the mag to work as it should . If you want a bullet a little better try the Speer .452 300gr deep curls. You will be impressed I don't shoot much pellets but I have not shot .54 pellet out of a .50 in-line. I might question that. I would start out at a lesser charge then 120 loose and work your way up by 5grains. Maybe start at 80 and then 85. 90 is the sweet spot on alot of guns these days. Nice shooting/ Steve
  19. This has been posted else where but if you didn't see it check it out. Looks like some of the good ole boys who left TC are starting there own line of muzzleloaders. http://lhrsportingarms.com/Redemption.html
  20. nice , congrats.... What bullet and powder did you use...
  21. Good luck to everyone with their smokepole this weekend up north .Looks like Sat morning is going to be nice and cold.Hopefully we can get to see some pics of any deer that get harvested. I will be using my X7 with a .452 300gr deep curl in a crush rib sabot.
  22. In Albany Co it took me 14 months start to finish and 100 bucks plus. A few years ago I sent a letter to the judge asking for restrictions to be removed . He granted me along with hunting and target to carry hiking and camping as stamped on my amendment. I was told on the paper work that states to use blue or black ink , if you don't use the proper color you could be denied for not following directions. Not sure if its true or not.
  23. My daughter made that same pile in our back yard so I don't mow them over !!! For days I was wondering what in earth did it...
