  1. If your going to stick to pellets, I would drop down to two as long as your groups are good. With the $$$$ of pellets you would be doing yourself a favor with 2 rather then 3. I have not tried the scorpian PT but lots of folks like them . I have so many deep curls an Xtps I am good for awhile now. Did you buy direct from Harvester?
  2. Those impacts can shoot, did you try two pellets or loose? Nice group.
  3. Correct the Impact does need a wrench / socket to remove the breach plug. I would just consider it if I was thinking price wise of the Wolf. I would shoulder the guns too and not only get one that fits your budget but feels good to you.I have heard nothing but good about the Impact and Wolf. AS I have stated before I am not a CVA fan but that doesn't meen they are not good shooters. Plenty of people have them and have the targets to back it up. He might want to check the used market too, gun broken has plenty of nice stuff listed all the time, as does gunsamerica.
  4. Your making a mistake if you chuck the impact. It only takes a second to get the breech plug out. The other choices are good too.If your looking at the Optima might want to get a Omega.
  5. Are you using a scope or open sight.I always start at 25 then go to 50. Just me..... As stated I would get some 250gr XTP and crush rib sabots to start. Once you get that dialed in , people can chime in on different bullets, tips, and anything else you might want to know. Muzzle loading is a great sport but please be sure to read your owners manual first before shooting. Steve
  6. If you get a inline you can shoot BH209 and cleaning can be done at the end of the day.I can get 30 shots no problem before I clean. For me, most common would be 80-100gr depending on pellets or loose.I like the heavy bullets in the 300 - 460gr.Some like a 250gr xtp or sst. Their are so many choices its endless. If you buy pistol bullets in .451 / .452 in bulk like a XTP or deep curl you can shoot cheap. Sabots can be bought seperate too. Conical which don't use a sabot are common too, 460gr no excuses is a great bullet as is the hornady 350gr FPB. For starters I would use a 250-300gr XTP in a Harvester crush rib sabot. That bullet has killed more deer then any bullet going. The whole TC line up is good form the impact to the pro-hunter.
  7. The bullets you choose would depend on the muzzle loader a little. Are you getting a modern inline , flintlock or precussion ML. Powder is in the form of pellets where you drop in 1,2,or 3 , 30-50gr charges and also in loose form.T7 Pryodex are in pellets and loose and if you get a inline you can shoot BH209 which is loose only. To me the .50 is the way to go.The bullets are easy to find and its the most common caliber for them. They do make .32 / .45 / knight makes .52 and many .54.Your inline will be .45 or .50. cleaning depends on the powder but you would clean very often when using T7 or Pryodex. As in almost after every shot. Steve
  8. How many shots are through your impact? You might want to try some JB bore Paste in it. Maybe 50 strokes or so. I know TC packs there new guns with some funky grease in their barrels. I use the black crush rib in my TC X7 with a .452 bullet.I can load it with one hand.

    Henry Ball

I saw this on a other board and thought I would pass along. Henry Ball passed away on 1/8/12 , he was the pioneer of the smokeless powder now used in todays Savage 10ML-11 and other smokeless muzzle loaders.Plenty to read about him on the net if one has time to enjoy some great topics. Its sad to see minds like his move on in todays age of computers.

    Bullets

What powder are you using. Bullets very from gun to gun. You will have to try a few with different powder to find your best choice. Prb and no excuses would be my choice.
  11. Looks and sounds like a harvester crush rib sabot. The bullet looks like a xtp but it was hard to tell. Nachez was the first place I saw them.
  12. Yes try the crush rib sabot as stated. You will be able to enjoy loading. Just keep in mind blackhorn 209 is a progressive burning powder and does like a tight fit load. You could still use t7 but would have to swab after just about every shot. If your omega is like mine 80-90gr of bh209 and a 300 gr bullet is lethal combo. If you still use the pellets that's fine to as the crush rib will help your accuracy Muzzle loading is a great hobby but never be shy to ask question as any question is a good one. That being said you want to load the bullet into the sabot then load the both into the ml to be set on the charge.
  13. What sabot are you using? Stay away from bore butter in a modern inline.
  14. I leave my Moultrie I40 out all winter long in the back yard. I have not had a issue other then less battery life.

    range time

Are the knight sabots mmp sabots? Good shooting in the cold!!!!!_
  16. It is a alloy frame correct? If so I would be concerned with longevety if shooting hotter loads. There is no need for a ported barrel with the psi and velocity created from a ml. I have seen some at the range , just not for me. Accurate I am sure. the omegas and cva optimas would be better IMO and cost less

    range time

Bubba have you chrono'd those 10mm with 100gr of BH209. Just wondering what kind of speeds your getting. Are you going to keep the knight sabots or try harvester?? Steve
  18. The voteck is over priced by far to me. That cerakote finish is not to my likeing.Plus with a ported barrel makes loose powder a chore on a windy day. Also makes cleaning the ported holes all that much harder. For that kind of money you can get a better gun. This is only my thoughts. I have a white,TC,and a NEF.All have there place in the muzzle loading world. I just still am not sold on Tradtions and CVA yet. But many are and get GREAT results from them.
  19. Sounds like you got a plan. Good luck
  20. I dont think the pro hunter comes in true stainless now . It's all weather shield but maybe I am wrong. The drop breach omega is as easy to clean as any break open. My 200 dollar nef can shoot as good if not better then any top dollar pro hunter. For the money you can get a really nice ML under 400 bucks , also one that is easy to clean either drop breach or break open. Your TC black Diamond is known to be one of if not the dirtiest ML to clean.Thats not saying it can't shoot as they are accurate guns. Steve
  21. Don't just limmit your self to the pro hunter. New England fire arms makes break actions ML TC has the omega , impact , triumph CVA has the wolf, optima and accura. I am not a CVA fan but they are affordable and shoot very well. Tradtions has several in the break action line up including the ultra light vortek. If you want a really light ML google the TC X7. Steve
  22. It is the best powder going but expensive.
  23. I have seen some lock up like a bank vault other were sloppy. Check out mike bellm should you have a issue. Someday I hope to get one modern ml has a nice one listed i might consider.
  24. Do you have the facotry hinge pin bubba or a belm one? Might your run some JB paste down it, I know the TC barrels got that funky grease , not sure about the bergara ones.
