Not big-game....but Im going to Northern Minnesota for a Bobcat hunt in December (week between xmas and new years)...if I tag out early, I'll go for coyote/fox as well. -
why do people make up stories and post pics they found on the internet? i dont get the point of it..

Thanks for the help....I see in CT you have to buy the license first, then apply for the lottery (free) to hunt state land...guess if you dont get picked in the lottery, then the license you buy was pointless.

Thanks for the info...I'll look in my gun safe....shotgun is about 20 years old...but if it came with one, id still have it.

I understand....is there a way to just buy a shotgun plug made for my shotgun (browning BPS Pump) ? as opposed to making something with wood or a pencil? not looking to make something that could possibly ruin my mag in the gun....worst case scenario I'll just go to CT with a 12ga. over/under since it can only hold 2 shells.

I dont duck hunt...sounds like a lot of work....My shotgun holds 4 in the mag and 1 in the chamber....so thats 5 and if Im allowed 3, then I can just do this right? 1 in the chamber, 2 in the mag, and 2 dummy shells in the mag? i dont see why you cant just walk around with only 3 in the gun..? if an officer came over and checked my gun and asked me to unload, he would see im only carrying 3 "live" shells.

Yea their website is nuts...I dont hunt with bow or muzzleloader...looks like i can put in for a lottery to hunt state land with a shotgun...but my shotgun can only hold 3 shells? my browning shotgun I use in NY can hold 4 and 1 in the chamber (so 5)...guess I can't use it??

Anybody from NY hunt deer in Connecticut? I live like 20 minutes from the CT/NY border and was wondering what the whole process was and if it was worth it? I see there are lotteries for state land, certain gun restrictions, etc... Thanks in advance.

what state land do you hunt in Putnam County? I know of ninham mt., big buck, the great swamp, etc...but never hunted any of them for deer...always figured they were overcrowded...i try to stay on small pieces of private land.

yeaa I would never deer hunt there....i have other spots for that....Thanks a bunch for the info, doubt I'll go back there for predators this year....

More than enough for coyotes..... a .22-250 with 55 gr. is what all the guides in canada suggest and use for wolves up to 150lbs!

yup, thats what I figured...only center-fire rifles are banned year round from westchester, but outside of all deer seasons, a shotgun and even rimfire (.22) can be used for small game and furbearers.

Can you use a shotgun for small game and furbearers as well? using buck shot, not slugs...

its weird though because the regulations say NO Rifle in westchester, but nowhere does it say no shotguns or rimfire rifles in westchester...?

The NYS Hunting regulations are pretty vague.....because in Putnam "shotgun only" for deer...you CAN use any centerfire rifle only after all deer seasons are closed.

Center-fire Rifles are NEVER allowed in Westchester, but what about rimfire rifles (.22) and shotguns AFTER all deer seasons are closed in Westchester?

After all deer seasons (Shotgun, ML, and Bow including late season) are over, you can use any centerfire rifle you want in Putnam County for furbearers...Dutchess would fall under the same laws.......Rifles only cant be used in Westchester and Long Island.

how do you shoot the yotes when hunting with dogs? do they bay the yote, or do you shoot with them while their running with a shotgun? -
My call is coming Monday...so next weekend I will give it a try with my dad on either state or private land in Putnam...1 of us with a shotgun, and 1 of us with the .243 or .22Mag
