  1. I'm getting a mix on my trail cams so far. I have pictures of big bucks by themselves, I have pix of good looking 8's brawling, and I have pix of 2 or 3 bucks feeding together.. and this activity is happening during daylight as well as at night.
  2. I ended up making one last year. I wanted something for small game, waterfowl, and deer. The wife got tired of me making a mess in the kitchen so I ended up making one. It's 2x3 and made of 1/2 plywood that I sanded and sealed over a 2x2 frame. It's the perfect size because I can move it and store it easily, it's solid and fits and entire deer quarter, and cleans up easily.
  3. It's been tough to pin down deer movement. Since I can't access anything to the east or west, I'm not able to get in the scouting that I'd like to. What I can assume is that they're bedding on the other properties and coming into the corn to feed. Once in the field, I've seen deer all over.. I've seen them come in from the north east, from the north west.. I've seen them come in from the sides, I've seen them come up from the south.. that was all last year though when this was a bean field and I could see the entire length of it. Now I have standing corn that's 8 feet tall so I have to rely on game trails, feeding areas, foot prints, poop, and cameras.
  4. Thanks for the thoughts so far. I should have put on there that N is at the top and S on bottom. Also my only way in to the property is from the top right corner. With that said, my typical travel route is to follow that hedgerow straight down to stand 3. Stands 2 and 4 are new this season.
  5. Looking for some veteran advice here on how to play the wind. I have access to the property in the pic below. It's 250 acres with the fields being about 200 of that and the woods to the South being the other 50. The crop this year is corn. Oaks are all along the perimeter, and there is an apple orchard touching the southeast corner. The property line stops at the field edge on the east and west sides. I have stands placed where you see numbers on the map. I see deer poop and prints all over. I included a few pix from a cam in front of stand 3. The question is, which stand would be optimal for the various winds? I know there is more often than not a west wind. Any advice is appreciated. also, how the heck do I rotate the images?
  6. In my experience I haven't seen anything that indicates that any attractant scent that I've ever used was effective. I understand that everyone's experiences are different, and in mine, I'm not convinced that these are with the time, money, or effort. With that said, I'll throw my support along with the others behind evercalm. This stuff works! Similar to some others, I've had deer walk right over my trail and they didn't spook. Now I don't go in the woods without it!
  7. Mange? That's interesting. How would it look on a deer? I have a few on camera that look underfed and their coats look spotty..
  8. I pulled my cards for the first time this past weekend. Saw some daytime activity that has me getting excited, but then I saw this photo. It looks like the offspring of a rat and a coyote having a one night stand.
  9. Nice. Looks like a good spot! I also pulled cards for the first time this year. Starting to get excited for the fall...
  10. I'll to my best not you get this wrong.. Breast the bird. Cut the best in half so you have two big flat pieces of meat. Pound them with a mallet to flatten and tenderize them. Soak them overnight in a saltwater brine. Then soak them overnight in a marinade of your choice. I use a soy teriyaki ginger garlic mix that works pretty well. Grill them to your liking. I go about 2minutes per side on a hot grill. Then take a loaf of italian bread and cut it in half lengthwise. Scoop out some of the guts to make a bread bowl. In a pan, cook some bacon. Remove the bacon and saute onions garlic and mushrooms in the bacon fat. In the bread bowl, layer the bacon, then the veggies, then provolone cheese, then the goose, then another layer of provolone. Put the top on, wrap it on foil, and Todd it on the oven. 350 for 15 minutes or so..
  11. I recently found a goose recipe that I really like. Gave me a new reason to get after em, so I'll be out 9/1.
  12. Sure as hell beats the view at the office..
  13. .308.. so strange.. inside Rib cage is entirely intact, no damage at all.
  14. She was snug as a bug in a rug. Got her hanging and cooling now. I'm really curious about the shot placement. She dropped in her tracks, there is no obvious entry or exit wound, and there was no blood at the scene. I looked inside the chest cavity when I hung her up but still don't see a wound. Oh, and there was no heart when I dressed her. We'll see what I find when I get the skin off..
  15. Perfect morning to be out. Sat in 8x. 25 degrees with a NW wind pushing snow right in my face. Around 8 o'clock I had a doe work in behind me. Not huge but today she was big enough. She gave me a clear broadside shot at 80yds. Put the crosshair on her shoulder and dropped her. I ended the season with a BANG
  16. Thought about that, but it's a lot of corn and it's piled into mud. Would be quite an ordeal to properly clean up. I can't get back out there til Saturday so wouldn't give me much time to hunt given the effort it would require to clean it up.
  17. Well that sucks. Just got off the phone with the DEC. The trespassers who dumped the corn screwed up there rest of my season. If you're hunting within the capable range of your firearm to a pile of bait, that's illegal. Since it's rifle country and the bait pile is in a cut bean field, that's pretty much the whole property. Guess I'm going to have to switch back to xbow at the South end of the property. I hope I get a picture of these a holes.
  18. Anyone willing to part with 8x? I have a few 8a, not that those are hard to come by...
  19. I have access to 2 private pieces of land. Both are posted and I have written exclusive permission to both from the land owner. One property is 200+ acres of hardwood. The other is roughly 20 acres hardwood with 200 acres of ag. The hardwood property is established so no real trouble from neighbors. The AG property is newer and so I've had my hands full this year with trespassers. My question is this. When I was there a few days ago, there was a fresh pile of corn with chunks of granular molasses mixed in. This was maybe 25 yds off the road, right where the driveway meets the field. I put a camera over it to try to figure out who it is. The property is about an hour from my house which makes babysitting it tough. I have a call in to the local eco. Prior to that conversation, any suggestions on what I should do?
  20. Aside from the complete lack of deer it was a great morning to be out. Done for a few days. I'll try to get out again for this cold front that's headed my way.
  21. Walking in this morning I nearly tripped over a pile of corn that some trespasser recently left near the stand i was going to sit in this morning.. now I had to hike across the property to another stand where the wind won't be ideal.. not letting it dampen my spirit! C'mere deer!
  22. Driving in this morning, already super excited because of all the success stories yesterday. Just drove through a herd of deer that were running all over the road, including a nice buck chasing a doe.. good luck to all who are out!
  23. TC took the words out of my mouth. Looks like as much activity today as any day so far this season. Congrats to all! I hope that continues for those of us who can get out tomorrow..
