The "Magic Day" is the day you are in the woods and things are happening.  Deer aren't using calendar's where I hunt......

I had a spot, that I swear the deer watched the calender. The 10th and 11th was the day for many years in a row..lol..

From my own observations, the rut falls about the same time in November every year, and has nothing to do with the moon, as far as timing goes. I call November 10th the magic day, and five days on either side of that are prime too. Yes, there will be some rutting activity before and after those dates. But during the time between Nov 5th and 15th, is when the majority of doe's will come into estrous.

I believe the amount of daylight triggers the rut each year. And of course weather, hunting pressure, buck\doe ratios, and many other factors, may vary the rut activity we see. But the rut is still going to happen at the same time, year after year.

Agreed! I always waffled between November 10 and 11 as being the "magic day.

The reason you switched is the reason I tried them for one season. Some nasty holes on shots too far back.

i am sharing my honest experiences with them. Really don’t care what other people use. For me they were horrible. I  know a lot of people love them and defend them like you spoke about their mother. IMO too much to go wrong with mechanicals not to mention the energy it takes to open. There’s enough things to go wrong in bow hunting so I eliminate that one.

    I respect that.. I'm not a tinkerer(there is a word..lol) so I will probably stick with them.

Nothing is a 100% though.  I have lost a deer due to hitting backbone on a really steep angled shot. Probably would have gotten that one if I had a tough cut on contact traditional head..

  4. I've had great luck with the rage hypodermic and Probably 1/2 dozen deer with the cheap chinese version. The 1st mechanical I used was a grim reaper. They worked great but imo need a higher poundage to reliably get pass through in the case of a shoulder bade hit ,etc..

I've  shot 2 deer right though both shoulder blades with pass through. Both heads were junk afterwards but the deer died in under 40yds in sight.. I switched to mechanicals because ,if I have a poor shot ,it's ussually too far back and the huge hole has allowed for easier recoveries.

^^ agreed to both. I bought the plug in type of tester. I'm headed back to Lowe's today (luckily not too far from the house) to pick up either a multi meter or something like what @sbuff  suggested. I've been putting it off because I rarely ever tinker with electrical, but for the safe of just a few bucks it's worth grabbing one. I need to pick up a new gfi outlet anyway while I'm there, so I'll just grab both.

Just my opinion, but I would go with the multimeter. The "stick" testers are good but are limited in their capabilities.

  6. Pretty wild.. I happened to be driving through Potsdam (60 miles NE watertown)  at the wrong time.. I didn't encounter hail, but the only thing I didn't see was a flying cow.. Traffic lights were out and I was dodging tree limbs and garbage bins everywhere. All at 5-10mph because that's all the visibility allowed..

Cool ! I always find it amazing the difference between fisheries. We catch them in 4-8' of water all summer in the local rivers. Of course the deep holes are 10' deep.

Try to find a used Mathews HTX No Cam. I have a separated shoulder and tried a ton of bows. This one by far was the easiest on my shoulder.

Lots of guys use ArcheryTalk for used bows?

I have used archery talk classified a few times with good results . Just make sure they have good feedback.

I install HVAC. Usually means that side is not clicked in all the way or the hanging bracket is loose right there.

Or possibly the line-sets not tucked away properly?

My 93 chevy had 293k on the original drive train when I sold it . That was just a crudely fuel injected 350 which have always been bulletproof. Another engine that often get over looked from that era was the straight 6 300 ford used to use.

I was never a fan of the 350 in a truck. The 300 in the ford was indestructible.. I had a 1981 f100 with the 300 and a 68 f350. I sold the 81 with a couple 100 thousand on it and I would see it around for years.

The f100 went every weekend for a year with my foot literally to the floor down 87 from Lake George to Albany .. speedo only registered 85 but it took a second for the needle to drop..lol
