I know from past experience that the snow will help in dragging that buck. Especially if it's down hill.Dave -
I agree we beat this one to death.Dave

Must be the long winter has taken its toll on everyone. Winter makes people moody and grouchy and some times short on common sense. The weather is starting to change and hopefully our outlook on things will change too. I think I am going to buy a sundial so I can be more accurate on sunrise and sunsets. Dave

Congrats on your 500 post and that nice turkey, Just about a month to go, good luckDave

I hunt down in the southern tier and you must be right there is very little small game around must be coyotes. All bow and gun season I didn't see any small game except for a few grouse that scared the s--- out of me. I have permission to hunt rabbits out on eastern Long Island but just for opening day that's it and we usually do pretty good. Last year we got 8 rabbits and jumped 2 fox sunning in a meadow they were the size of a small german shepard. We are bordered by a winery so the fox eat well. Grapes and rabbit.Dave

Thanks Pygmy I have meadow around my house but never see any chucks. I cut all season so there is plenty of grass but no chucks. I would like to get one and cookem up.Dave

Your right Pat, some people just twist words and contradict themselves and deny it to the bitter end. That is the one thing about these threads that gets to me. Own up to the facts and don't twist words. That is immature! If some of the people that go to antlers website ever read some of his responses on this site he would have less people visiting his website. They would see how nasty he can be and rep on here isn't to good either. Antler set your watch make sure you have the right sunrise time, did you account for daylight savings time?Dave
-
I bet antler would be the first to be voted off the show. He better show up on time, not 5 to 10 minutes before or after. There are strict rules, black and white and definitely no gray areas and no using common sense.Dave

For all the guys who hunt on state land it's 6:45 am and there it is the biggest buck you have ever seen but it's not 6:49 am the legal hunting time by just 4 minutes do you shoot or not? Be honest.Dave Good Lord, I can't believe you guys sucked me into reading all 15 pages of this dribble. I feel like I'm a kindergarten teacher ;D Mom Pat called me a doodie head but, Mom NYAntler called me a slappy pants. Seriously? ;D Besides everyone knows if youve got 5 min before shooting time and you can tell 100% that its a deer, shoot it and set your watch 5 min faster If it's dark enough to need a flashlight and you shoot than your and idiot and every yr I hear lots of idiots out there. Just my opinion but were talking a few minutes not 1/2 an hour! I think there are a lot of other more serious game law infractions going on in the woods to discuss here and I'm pretty sure everyone would be in agreement that they were wrong. So why are we arguing about something so trivial. And stop the name calling your grown ass men not school children, it's embarrassing Erussell I agree with you 100%, but there are some on this site will hang you out to dry for those 5 minutes. Dave

I changed my mind.. I really don't like you much at all... you're kind of a douchebag Here you are the holier than tho, super law biding ethical hunter calling someone a douchbag . Your a real class act yep low class. Like I said before those who protest their innocence before they are judged must have something to hide. Antler, you remind me of the GEICO commercial where the guy comes out from under a rock. Good hiding place.Dave and you remind me of all the other fellas that need an excuse to kill a deer before or after legal shooting time... I can live with being attacked for being an ethical hunter and hunting by the rules... but it seems you are having a hard time with guys calling you out for not doing the same... I don't remember EVER saying that I did anything unethical. That I shot any deer before or after legal shooting time. This started as a hypothetical situation of (what would you do)., that you turned into calling people on this site criminals and unethical for giving their opinion.Dave

Its not OK for NYAntler to call someone a d-bag, but it IS ok for you to call him low class and say he lives or hides under a rock? Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me. Ok how should we respond to a bully who likes to insult the others on this site? I would think low class isn't the same as calling someone a d-bag.Dave

Have no problem being put in the company of Wolley and Pat. No bullshit with them they use common sense.Dave The fact that you picked those two as your steak buddies speaks volumes... easy to go back and pick apart a story when you are searching for bullshit ways to excuse your lack of ethics... you might want to invite dave too.. you all seem to fit the same mold....Us seasoned hutners aren't wasting our time looking for guys doing something wrong on the forum... were discussing opinions like adults... you don't have to like mine... and I certainly think your opinion on this topic is lame. Go back to playing with your other buddies.

Bubba invite all of us for opening day. Dave

It's all good. Just feel we got a lot of bullshitters here. I hate to profile by the way someone types or expresses there experiences, but if I went back and dug through these threads some....there's a lot of conflicting opinions and stances some here haven't remebered to stick to very well...if for nothing more than their own credability. Holyer than thou attitudes portrayed from thread to thread except for that one screw up when you all thought nobody was paying attention. Believe me, I read them all. Arrowflipper is right at the top of that list right beside bubba. I agree... there are a lot those that don't walk the walk... I happen to be one of the ones that do... killing a whitetail is not more important to me than the excitement of the hunt and the story behind it. I often wonder about those who protest their innocence before any one even accuses them. Must be a sign of guilt. Walk the talk or talk the bullshit, hard to tell the difference. Tough to walk in your perfect shoes, should use boots it's getting deep.Dave

Antler, ever hear this people who live in glass house shouldn't throw stones. You must be the most ethical person on this planet, never did anything wrong. I am sure you must have some ghosts in your closet. Why are you so rigid, in life there are exceptions not everything is black and white.Dave

Pat, I'm sure that those who hunt to feed their families are not waiting for legal shooting time . If it's a few minutes before or after and a matter of food for the family I think they would shoot to feed their family. These hunters have a moral dilemma and I feel for them, family comes first. When you hunt for food it doesn't matter if it's a doe or a buck. I don't think they would care what people would think about, if it's ethical or not or even illegal. You have to do what you have to to feed your family. Dave
-
you got me, it's not foggy. Dave
-
Pat the whole thing is about 5 minutes, Some think if you shoot 5 minutes before or after legal shooting time you are a criminal. I am not talking about shooting in the dark or road hunting, just those few minutes leading up to legal hunting time. Many times I don't even wear a watch and in that case I let the light and field of view be my guide. I am arguing a point not saying I am shooting deer illegally, but if I saw a nice buck at 6:50 instead of 6:55 am I think I would shoot.Dave
-
Don't be overy critical ;D Dave
-
Bert, you have nothing to defend as far as I am concerned. I look at it this way , How many of these ethical hunters who watch their watches for the legal hunting time drive over the speed limit? I would bet most drive over the speed limit, are they unethical for doing so maybe not but they are breaking the law. So if your so busy watching your watches on your deer stand why can't you watch your speedometer. Plus the fact that the police let you go over the speed limit 5 to 10 miles before they pull you over and give you a speeding ticket. So I believe that a conservation officer would give a hunter a break if he shoots a deer 5 to 10 minutes before legal hunting time. Lets use a little common sense and logic , like it was mentioned I never new a hunter who looked up what the time he could legally shoot a deer was. And yes it changes every day. Dave
