  1. G-Man thanks for the information will be very helpful.Dave
  2. Two years ago I had the soil tested and they recommended putting down 2 ton of lime. So I had a guy who does food plots come over and he said he had to kill all of the grass and weeds. When he finally showed up he put down weed killer over the acre and never came back. Contacted him and he said it was too wet to plant the corn. Funny I cut the grass every two weeks and never had a problem. So no corn planted that year, willing to try again. He called it the no till method anyone familiar with that type of planting?Dave
  3. Guy's would like to plant corn this year. Have an acre that is now grass, was a meadow that has been cut for the past 4 yrs. What do I need to do to get started? Dave
  4. Well Newsday did it again slanted comments on youth turkey hunting on Long Island. Compared it to violent ulgy behavior that we are teaching our youth to kill innocent wildlife. What do you expect from the liberal news rag. Only presenting one sides opinions all negative. Such SB. Dave
  5. My round trip will be about $100 round trip from the Island including tolls. Usually shop in Callicoon which is about 15 miles from the house ,will buy all my groceries at home so I can avoid the extra shopping trips. Filled five, 5 Gallon gas cans in N.J last week for $3.57 that I will bring up state for my mowers and quad bike. Dave
  6. I think he was just a stupid moron trying to smuggle a wrench. Or practicing to be a sword swallower. But fast eddie was right he was tightening his nuts. Dave
  7. G-man the bear sitting at the picnic didn't come through. Dave
  8. Happy Easter to all, enjoy the day, family and all the good things in your life. Remember past loved ones. Dave
  9. Pat what's the weather doing up by you? Raining like hell here on the Island.Dave
  10. Pat, I never used bleach to clean my deer. After I get it back to the house I hang the deer and then get a 5 gallon bucket with clean water and a few clean rags and wash the inside rib cage while trimming any excess stuff that in the cavity.Dave
  11. Burt, don't forget that 95% of LIRR workers retire on disability . How does one get a disability from watching another work? But they all get it. That's why you pay $300 for a LIRR ticket to pay for their phony disability checks.Dave
  12. Antler, there is no negating your past, it's who you are good or bad. That's like saying that a person who kills someone when he is 18 is not a killer at 50. That's just trying to justify ones past mistakes but we are all accountable for our past no matter how old we are. Just look at our political system if it weren't for past mistakes being brought to light a lot of undiserable people would be in office. Not to say there already some in office who shouldn't be.Dave
  13. always more than one way to skin a cat.Dave
  14. G-man/Pygmy thanks for the good advice. I will give it a try and see which load patterns best. May 1st not too far away. Dave
  15. Pygmy am I using the correct shot or should I be shooing something different? Is there a better shot to use on turkey than #4? Thanks for the info.Dave
  16. G-man I have the same shot gun and use a turkey choke. I use 12 gauge 3" Mag 2oz number 4 shot. Is this a good load to use and what is the range with this load. Never shot a turkey so this is new to me. Dave
  17. Saw very few deer but the turkeys were every where.Dave
  18. How many lives have been lost because of this problem?Dave Here is a cut/paste from State Farm.................. Best Automobile Insurance Save on Car Insurance with Your Choice Auto Insurance Home Contact Us Site Map Deer Effect State Farm Car Insurance November 8th, 2010 | by Nathan Phillips | The cost of those seemingly cute, cuddly deer out in the streets is actually more than you might imagine. Not only do they eat plants and crops, they can carry lyme disease and wreak havoc on your car insurance. Allan Sloan’s Fortune article on CNN Money discusses the financial impact of what he calls “rats with hooves.” That may be a bit harsh, but “The case against Bambi” has valid financial points. State Farm car insurance says that 1.14 million accidents between deer and cars occurred in a one year time frame ending this June. That cost drivers and insurance companies close to $4 billion in damages. And if you include the accidents where drivers didn’t have any car insurance or comprehensive coverage, the cost of damages is even higher. In the past five years the number of deer related crashes has increased by 21%, while the number of miles people are driving only went up by 2%. The likely cause of that statistic is that there are a lot more deer out on the roads than there were five years ago. The worst part is that deer are causing human fatalities in car crashes. It is estimated that 140 people were killed just last year because of deer-vehicle accidents. The top five states where accidents occurred were Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Virginia. The fewest accidents were in Rhode Island, Alaska, Nevada, the District of Columbia, and Hawaii. With fatalities and skyrocketing costs associated with deer-vehicle collisions, the author ponders whether eliminating some deer for the greater good of humans is the next step. I do not disagree with the statistics. I was just wondering about the area in question who many people were killed recently? Did something cause the call to cull the deer herd in this area besides them eating all their schrubs and flowers.Dave
  19. Great pictures, seems to be plenty of game on your property. Owl was real neat.Dave
  20. G-Man notice they all of a sudden have no problem bating the deer to kill them. Why can't they be hunted ethically? If there are that many deer it should be no problem.Dave
