Pffft, I can do that.

Yep, porcupine poop.Deer also depend on cedars (as well as hemlocks) for food during harsh winter conditions.

My post was a long winded explanation of why recoil will vary from rifle to rifle. The weight of the rifle & the stock geometry is why. When the rfile is lightweight, stock geometry becomes a HUGE factor. Years ago I built my brother-in-law, Daniel, a nice "Ohio Vally" .50cal muzzle loading rifle. I got my hands on a 36" x 7/8" Douglas octagon barrel in .50, something that officailly didn't exist. It was opined that it was a "back door" barrel, most likely done by someone that worked @ Douglas had made on the QT since the smallest cross section .50 Douglas profile was 15/16" Anyway, it made a nice lightweight rifle. The cast traditional cresent brass buttplate I used was very near 90° & when the top of the heel was angled W/the comb. The angle in relation to ones shoulder was quite pronounced, angling forward @ the toe. (bottom) As usual, I took the time to sight the rifle in & "adjust" the fixed sights W/a file & punch before doing any metal or wood finish. W/hunting loads of 90gr FFFg behind a patched .490 RB, the rifle would rare up & drive the comb into one's cheek bone. After firing about 10 rounds, I had the rifle sighted in, but my face looked like I had gone a few rounds W/Mike Tyson. My cheek was quite swolen. It was so bad that my right eye was partially closed. I turned the rifle over to Daniel to varify the POI. When he retrned the weapon several days later for me to do the final finish, I asked him what he thought. "Well," he said. "It beat the $hit out of you didn't it?" I replied. He answered, "yeah." I heated up the brass casting to a dull red & bent the toe of the cresent to the rear, making the angle in relationship to the shoulder to near 0°. That turned the evil face beater into a docile, pleasant to shoot rifle. Rifles W/stocks that have the buttplate angled forward @ the toe will tend to rise upon recoil as will older style stocks W/a lot of "drop" @ the comb. Modern assualt weapons have the sights mounted high for a reason. That puts the bore axis in a straight line W/the shoulder, thus sending recoil in a straight line into the shooters body. That reduced muzzle rise significantly. Another bit of stock geometry that reduces felt recoil is "cast on". Cast on angles the rear of the stock towards the shooter's face. This makes the rifle tend to recoil away (horizontally) from the shooters face. My 7 1/2# (all up weight W/scope/sling/ammo) 8X57 generates 3300 ft # of Me W/"adult pressure" loads, yet it is not unpleasant to shoot dispite having a curved metal buttplate. The angle of the buttplate is nearly 0°, the drop is not ecessive & there is considerable cast on. In the picture below, you can see the angle of the buttplate & the nearly straight line from the bore axis to the heel (top) of the butt. Make no mistake, this rifle has considerable recoil. The laws of physics coupled W/3300# of Me & relatively light AUW dictate that. What it does, is transmit the considerable recoil straight into the shoulder & not the face/head. That reduces "felt" recoil.

"Free recoil" is the results of the weight of the ejecta (including the powder) factored W/the Mv. In the real world "free recoil" also needs to factor in the weight of the weapon as gravity will be a factor in how much that weight is propelled backward. Felt recoil adds stock geometry into the mix & that last factor can have more affect on "felt" recoil than than anything when the other factors do not vary a great deal. "Perceived recoil" will be affected by muzzle blast too. The weight of the powder is still relavent because although it is converted to a gas, the weight of that gas & the small amout on residue left after combustion will still equal the weight of the uncombusted powder. In the case of the .308 Vs the '06, that is not a huge difference. In the case of a 4 dram black powder charge behind 1 1/4oz of shot vs a 4 dram equivalent smokeless powder load, the difference in the weight of the ejecta equals nearly 90gr more for the black powder load. The laws of physics dictate that a .308 that has nearly the same Mv W/a given bullet weight will have nearly the same recoil as a 30-06 if all other cfactors are equal. The same laws dictate that a black powder & smokeless powder shotgun loads W/equal payloads of shot that are leaving the muzzle @ the same velocity will vary considerably in recoil.

The separation of church & state was so important that the progressive founding fathers saw to it that it was included in the 1st amendment. Today's conserva-turd radicals disquising themselves as conservatives want to legislate their narrow minded religious views into our govermment & thus the laws passed. That is no different than "sharia law" & no I don't think it should be any part of the government of the USA. -

More & more people will put him & the other village idiot on their ignore lists. (notice that I have not responded to any of the hate posts of the OP & his toady as they don't deserve the time to even read them) Not sure if that is their goal, but it's the most likely result. My question is why the moderators don't do something about these religious hate posts? They are going way beyond politics. It's just plain bigotry when they stereotype everyone in aparticular religious group due to the acts of a few lunatics. No different than judging all gun owners on the posts of these knuckle dragging cretans that post this trash.. Some people are such low down trashy scum, they feel the need to make feeble attempts to single out some group to look down upon. It's pathetic really. -

The use of that word alone makes your entire post seem like the irrelevant ranting of a dullard. -

If you are reffering to Papist & Mr VJP, perhaps we could draw straws. Short straw wins the honor. -

Citing FOX News as a source to verify something posted on a lunatic fringe REICH wing proaganda. web page is hilarious.Maybe we should check with Michele Bachmann & Sara Palin for the real facts? -
I think I read that article in 1970. Notice what kind of broad head was on the arrow? Still one of the best.

The locals in Idaho swear by 7mm-08 for Elk.

If you are near a Gander Mountain, THIS MODEL might serve your needs. 500yd range should be plenty for a retriever & it has all if the features you would likely need.

I used a Tri-Tronics Sport 65-BPR. It has a beeper that indicates a point or other stationary behavior of the dog as well as a "paging" feature which is handy to locate the dog in heavy cover. The pager feature ia a 4-tone melody that can be heard for about 100yds in cover. Tri-Tromics is no longer marketed. "Sport Dog" collars seem to have the same features & some components look just like the Tri-Tronics models. The Sport Dog SD1875 model has similar features to what my Tri-Tronics Sport 65-BPR has albeit W/a 1 mile range compared to 1/2 mile for my collar. I really don't think that you need all of those features W/a retriever. Just a basic e-collar would W/stimulous/tone, tone only, stimulous only, "nick" & variable stimulous level probably suit your needs. The yard trainers only have 100yd range & it doesn't say of they are waterproof. That might or might not suit your purposes. If you want to use the collar in the field, a few things to look for is that the receiver is waterproof, & @ least 1/2 mile range.. You can step up to a nigher end collar W/O the beeper features if you feel the need. As I said, I don't think the beeper/pager feature is needed for a retriever.

If the dog doesn't know what it is supposed to do, the e-collar can do more harm than good. That being said, the PROPER use of the collar will instil in the dog the idea that the master can deal out an unpleasant experience (for the dog) no matter how far away. Another thing: You MUST use the e-collar the instant the dog misbehaves. Once the dog is out of control, the shock can make behavior worse. I got my Brittany Max when he was 15 months old. He was out of control. I had to use a combination of check cords, a whistle & the e-collar to get control. I had a particularly hard time W/him breaking after a shot was fired @ birds. He would hold well @ the flush, but once a shot was fired he would break. I raised my own Pheasants & invited a couple of friends over to do the shooting for the 1st year. The instant that a shot was fired & Max started to break, I would hit him W/a strong shock & yell "WHOA" 2 commands that I insist on 100% instant obedience is "COME" & "WHOA". Either of those can make a life or death difference under certain conditions. For a retriever you don't need an elaborate system W/long range. A basic e-collar will do. Make sure it has adjustable level, stimulous/tone & tone only. 1/2 mile range is plenty. Here is an EXAMPLE With the e-collar I was able to turn Max into a well behaved, effective dog. When I would bring the collar out to the kennel, he would get excited because he knew he was going to get to "play W/the birdies".

Pa wakes up in the middle of the night in a state of extreme arousal. He reaches over & gives Ma a shake, awakening her. "Hey Ma, will you look at that!" He exclaims. "What do ya reckon we ougt'a do with that?" "Well Pa." She replies. "I reckon you ought ta warsh it wilst it has all the wrinkles ought of it!"

The "Blue Bird" in Bloomington, In has a large, prominant sign above the metal trough that serves as a high volume urinal. "Remember, the hands that pick the cigarette butts out of the urinal also put the ice in your drinks" There was not a single cigarette butt in that urinal.

Ma & Pa were sittin' on the porch swing one starry evening & before long, they both got to fellin' a little "frisky". They went into the bedroom where pa quickly disrobed & jumped onto the bed naked, rarin' to go. Ma, like most women felt the need to "freshen up" so she went into the bathroom, performed a few quick "personal hygiene" tasks & slipped on her most alluring nightie. While she was doing this, she was thinking about her heart condition & felt it would be wise to remind Pa. As she walked into the bedroom she said. "Now Pa, don't forget I have acute angina." Pa squinted his eyes a little & replied. "I sure hope so Ma cause them titties of yourn are downright ugly!"
