:offtopic: I went fishing on Black Lake (in the Adirondacks... near Alex Bay?) once and I SWEAR I saw a gar fish! Is that possible? It's the only one I've ever seen and he was swimming near our boat. It was probably 3' long and it had a long skinny snout.

I know it wasn't a pike - I've caught them before... this was shaped like a pike but the head on it was long and real skinny.

I couldn't get it to strike/bite my Rapala lure.

Have any members ever seen a gar fish in Black Lake or heard of 'em being there or caught?

yes you did see a gar in black lake . but they are called needlenose gar . they do not get as big as the alligator gar . they are still fun to catch . the best way to catch them is to drag a chuck of nylon rope behind the boat or if you see one sunning just drag it close to them they will bite it and it gets caught in their teeth . we fished for them while we were up there . was alot of fun .
