6.8 SPC Fir Deer? and in AR15 platform?

Recommended Posts

A 6.8 SPC is basically a 270 light. More than enough for a thin skinned animal such as whitetail deer. I have a Spikes Tactical lower that I put together with a Spikes Tactical Enhanced LPK. I added an ARP(www.ar15performance.com) upper in 6.8x43 and topped that with a Bushnell 3-10x40 Elite 3200 scope. I took it out in the woods for the first time last season but didn't get a shot. It'll be going out with me again this fall.

Its either 338 lapua or 300 win mag.  Its not a gun ill shoot a lot, but as of right now i dont have any 30 cal plus sized rifle since i sold my .308 AR, so i need something for bigger game.  I have the 22-250 for coyotes, so it would not solely be a coyote gun, rather it'd probably rarely be used for coyotes.

a 6.8spc II for deer is all about shot placement. shot placement, shot placement. i spent 2 seasons with my mini in 7.62x39. it can be used but there is no room for a marginal shot. there are better choices with the ar such as the 450 bushmaster or 50 beowulf. yes more recoil but it gives you more room for error if your off by a couple of inches particularly at the 75yrd and over range.  i know the beowulf is very effective at a 150 yards, distances i never would even consider with the smaller calibers, they just dump them in there tracks, period. my mini is now my go to yote gun and fits that bill very well. just my 2 cents worth if experiance.

      Hello -
I'm in the market for a shotgun geared towards waterfowl hunting. I am new to hunting and female, so I don't want a macho gun that'll give me such kickback that I'll fly backwards upon firing or spend too much $, my budget is $500 tops and I'm guessing I need a 20 gauge. I was considering a Remington 870 (the low end model) or even a Benelli Nova. I read that for duck hunting in LI or NYS whatever, the gun can not have more than 3 rounds in it, I'm not sure how or if that impacts what kind of gun I need to get. Also what kind of action is best?
Any and all model recommendations are welcomed. Thanks for your help.
P.S. If anyone knows of a good gun store in Manhattan (yeah I know), or LI let me know. Aside from looking for a gun, I need to know where to buy one!

Hey guys, i recently got rid of an old 16 ga, i have some shells left over from hunting with it and need to find a home for them. dont know if it would be worth it to anyone but i have about half a box(approx 15-20) shells, Slugs, and shot shells. if anyone near me has a 16 ga and would like them let me know. Hate to throw them away when a fellow hunter could use them. im in Newark Valley area just give a hollar if you could use them.

hey guys heres a question, my wife recently got me a new gun, Savage .308, i absoltely love it but i have put 2 boxes of winchester 180 grain shells thrrough it and still havent had a good group on bull. i have a 3x9x40 riflescope on top mounted securley because after a few shots i thought maybe the scope mounts were loose and it was causing a bad pattern, but it was not. is the 180 grain maybe a little too much for my deer hunting needs, should i drop down in load size what are some ideas to get this gun ready before i really need it next month. i do not want to chance going afield with a gun that may not be sighted correctly and make a poor shot and chance anything but a clean kill.

Finished my AR, just in time for the season however, I still have a long way to go before this puppy, well, kills a puppy. I don't have any free time to polish off my load development so I plan on doing it all opening day after the first setups. Looks I am designated cameraman. You can read the full article here...
