First-light
Just got back from camp. It was a bit slow on our end. We saw 3 doe, 1 button buck and I had two chasing this morning. I just could not make out the size of the buck doing the chasing. I believe he was small guy, didn't want to take another small buck. My niece made the trip for the first time. She is 21 years old and was a real trooper. stayed in the woods all day Saturday and Sunday. Wish she saw more deer, maybe in two weeks. The big news comes from my next door neighbors camp. Opening day his daughter shoots a 215 lbs 8 pt. The deer is massive and so are the antlers. Too bad one side was broken up a bit. If this buck was fighting I would love to see the deer he was doing it with. We also learned today on what happened to the nice 8pt my brother shot last weekend in the neck at bow season. The deer was harvested today ay 1:15 checking a scrape on the edge of cut corn. My neighbors cousin shot him. Upon inspection we saw the wound on his neck. The arrow went in and did some cutting but nothing major. They will look for the broadhead when butchering. Enjoy the picts! Zem18
That buck in the middle is a slob and the last one is no slouch. Congrats to the successful hunters.

First-light
Being picked up around 7:30 be at the cabin around 1. It will be rough but this is it for the season. Can't make smokepole so I hope we connect this weekend. Been quite up there my neighbor tells me, not much tracks. It will be nice to just get out. My good friend who doesn't hunt is coming along to check it all out. He will tag along with me and if all goes well will get his license next year. Good luck all! First-light
We just got back. Again not many deer sighted. The south wind totally sucks for us and that is all we had all weekend. So I take my friend with me and we go to the "bear den" stand. We settle in at 6:20 and I say a little prayer for a little help so he sees one. 6:25 crunching from across the flat. Sounds like a person walking, my buddy says they are deer. I look up and here comes a hog of a doe and a yearling. They come within 20 feet of us. Turn cross a creek and head up my field. There was snow on the ground and there was decent light, we still had almost a half hour until legal shooting hours. He questioned that and I explained it to him. Although I don't agree with the rule it was 6:25. We see two small ones later the afternoon but they were traveling the speed of light. My brother sees a doe but no shot. That was it. It was a really cool weekend, boys club, at the cabin. Good food, shot of whiskey, beer and a couple of good friends to wash it down with. Don't know if I make smoke pole, don't look good so this may be it for the season. Two bucks with the bow for us this season! First-light
Headed to the cabin in an hour. Neighbor said there is about 16" of the white stuff. If possible may walk a bit with the dog for some bunnies. If not it will be a hangout weekend at camp. Going to visit family over in Schuyler county Saturday night. First-light
We had a fantastic time at Otis pike today!!!!! The men did not do as well as the woman:( We saw a total of about 24 deer. A number of them were moving fast but we (my god daughter) managed to keep up with them and bagged her first deer!!!! We had section 9 and 10 which was huge. My brother and I probably walked 10 miles each. He shot a few times and so did I. I had 4 doe served to me on a silver platter but missed the lead doe and my gun jammed on the second shot. My buddy missed one also but many were moving fast as we were pushing a lot of the property. My brother texted me and said I will get my daughter a deer on this drive. He sent 7 deer her way and she took the last one in the group. I'm so proud of her, it was a great day we saw a lot of deer and will do this again next year, well maybe next week (I feel a bit sick) lol BTW I flushed out 3 grouse 4 pheasant. It was a great day!!!!!
