Licking Branch question

I see that all licking branches seem to have a branch either broken off or snapped and a hanging piece. Do they do this with their mouth or their antlers? I was thinking they probably bite it and break it.

They typically grab them in their mouth and pull on the branch and it breaks, don't be fooled does make them too

yeah they chew on the branch it leaves a scent for other deers. i just got one of those scrape dripper things and set it up it came with a dvd that was really good i learned a lot from that. little did i know that if you dont have a lot of scraes on your land its not cause theres no Bucks its because you most likely have to many doe there for no scraped needed cause there is no compitation.

Heading up on Friday for another weekend sit. Going to make some scrapes near my trail cams. I will be using the Code Blue Gravedigger time release stuff. Hope it gets hit in the next few weeks before gun season in the SZ.

They also rub the licking branch with their preorbital gland (around the eyes) and forehead glands to leave scent

They often thrash the branch with their antlers as well. I also have several clips of does rearing up on their hind legs and striking at the branch just like they would if they were fighting another doe.
