Uggh! I dropped my daughter's Ipad this morning . . .

damn thing was in a case but it slipped out of my fingers and hit my foot and then the tile floor cracking the screen. Needless to say I ordered an Otterbox defender for mine.

I went to the Apple store today and they told me they don't replace screens but offered a reconditioned replacement for $275 including tax. I read online that there are repair places out of state where you ship it and they will replace the screens for you for anywhere from $25 to $160. Not crazy about sending it out. Anyone know of any local place where they can repair the screen? Anyone ever send their Ipad/iphone out for screen replacement? Also saw online instructions on DIY. Not sure if I want to do that.

I would appreciate any advice on this as I feel horrible about dropping it especially since I'm always telling her to be careful with her phone and ipad.

I can relate, last week I drove off with my 4 year olds brand new V-tech tablet on my roof loosing it for good in the process. Luckily grandma saved the day and bought a replacement.

my bud was down in NYC visiting his bro and dropped his ipod and the screen cracked he took his to the apple store there in the city and it came to his door a few weeks later w a new screen. i think it cost around 85 bucks.. also my uncles ipod got a cracked screen and he bought a replacement off ebay... he is not sure where he put it, but if he can find it i figured out how to replace it so i will do it for him... (its not very hard but an ipad would be a lot harder)

I found a place in Great Neck called Repairsharks, LLC off 25A. It got some positive reviews and the cost is $160 for screen replacement. Apple did not offer screen replacement. They just offered a refurbished Ipad for $275. Considering the fact that the Ipad still works and is responsive, it looks like its just a digitizer screen issue and not the LCD underneath the glass. I think I'm going to go with Repairsharks. . . .

Apple store in the mall replaced a screen for us on one about 5 months ago, also one on a ipod. My "i" anything device days are over in this family, they are too fragile and expensive to get repaired.
