Deerthug
A company in Utah is manufacturing body armor backpacks for kids. Still just a passive approach. These may stop a couple of bullets but do you really think it would help in a massacre such as last Friday where the nut job sprayed each of the victims with multiple bullets? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/sales-soar-kid-themed-body-armor-backpacks-171359967.html How about trying this one on for size? A little better security but again just another passive approach to defend against what happened in Newtown. http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/school-safety-inside-one-schools-extraordinary-security-measures-121623758--abc-news-topstories.html
shawnhu
I'm confident none of the students had their backpacks on when shot, given the time this happened. I'd also imagine that the power of a bullet even after being stopped by a backpack would be devastating to the child. Sounds like a selling gimmick to capitalize on the situation to me. Exactly this company is just looking to capitalize on this sad event. I remember after 911 a company came out with a personal parachute that, according to them, could be used to parachute to safety from a tall building in the event of a simaler incident. Shameless. Elmo
There is already a product out in the market for such an event...it's called a self defense gun. Edited December 19, 2012 by Elmo
First-light
I hear you Deerthug, Look on the bright side this is what happened this week. A father home from the marines standing at the front of his daughters school. Happened in Tennessee this week. An off duty cop comes to his sons school to talk to the kids about safety. On and on across America people are talking and taking action. Something will become of this if both sides can meet in the middle and make some progress. G-Man
I really would like to take politics out of the issue all together laws will not do not sole anything for those that are set to commit these crimes don't seem to follow the laws, School boards should have a mandatory training day for teachers/school officials. on the proper use of pepper spry/ mace and give each teacer one to be kept on their person while in the classroom. just think 1 shot of pepperspray in the face of the latest shooter what the difference would of been...... nyantler
Taking the time to think this over will produce way better ideas than rash decisions... I guess it's just the human condition that makes some think that they can solve such a difficult problem with knee jerk reactions... I suppose for some taking the time to make sensible decisions just doesn't make sense and is not in their DNA.
