They are so picky about plots...two clover plots 150 yrds from each other..one with alfalfa and Burnett in it ..not one pic of anything over two weeks...and I had mowed it a while ago...this one ...I haven't touched and it's just clover and half the size of the other one....they love it 200 pics in a week...

So many variables grow...everything from the plot and nutrient uptake itself, to geographical location to beds, security cover, wind direction, thermals, annoying dogs, proximity to water, etc. So many reasons why deer choose what they do.

First..they actually love it and of course alfalfa....I think the tree cages in the other plot might be part of the problem  and or the Moultrie  camera isn't working right...I'll switch up cams to check that...plus well the field is wide open at the moment...with that bare and the farmers field behind the plot they are using, just filled with good stuff to eat being next to a pine woods......perhaps just no reason to go as far as that plot? Who knows

As far as mowing ...I mow short the first time due to weed growth...with in two days the thing was filled with blossoms...went down today and thanks to the rain ...it's 1/3 the way up my calf....I normally raise the deck and mow 6ins. high...I would think you'd have no problem with a bush hog adjusted to that or 8 inches

PS....if the weather ever changes my next new thing this year will be Sainfoil...link used just for discription..http://www.montanaseeds.com/montana_seeds/Welcome.html

I know...still say we all need to start a co-op...but alas... I think I bought mine from Welters...they are so good about working with shipping costs...I only bought enough to make my own mixed legume plot...A few pounds...testing the waters for now.

I'm always researching and testing new things..never know unless ya try....
