Elmo
I don't think it was a myth, as the female archers also had their left breast removed. The true myth was female archers had the left breast removed. It had nothing to do with spear throwing as the breast didn't interfere with the throwing motion of a javelin. Also keep in mind that they shot with a long bow which meant they held the bow at a 45 degree angle and leaned forward. Without the aid of a sports bra, the breast got in the way of the string. Nomad
I always read spear , Hippocrates said as much as well. But hey Jack I never went past 12 th grade..... I Just remember weird things I come across. Among Classical Greeks, amazon was given a popular etymology as from a-mazos, "without breast", connected with an etiological tradition that Amazons had their right breast cut off or burnt out, so they would be able to throw their javelins;[7] there is no indication of such a practice in works of art, in which the Amazons are always represented with both breasts, although the left is frequently covered (see photos in article). I Blame Belo . Oh and I know its true my. Great great great great great great grandfather knows a guy who got a picture of one throwing a spear right breathless on his trail camera ! Elmo
Hmmm...interesting. I heard archery. I was just visualizing the motion of pulling back a bow and the act of throwing a javelin with exposed breasts. Wait...that didn't come out right...
