josephmrtn
Whitetail strategies Vol 2 by Peter Fiduccia and i just came across a VERY interesting note... he says that he uses plastic corn cobs and apples sprayed with scent to bring the deer in... this would be legal in NY correct? he will hang the apples on a tree near his stand or put some cobs on the ground under his stand... he said the deer walk up and lick them and realize they are fake but it brings them in close enough to make the shot... growalot
I said last year that one could take pine chips/big flakes and dye them with food grade yellow die and put them in a pile....with as many ppl around here that illegally use corn...the deer would assume from sight...but now there aerosol corn scents on the market...pile the shavings and open a can of corn spray....lol... I prefer to relax and wait them out or hopefully call them in...takes longer but more satisfaction I think ...Though I do use scrape lines and scents for them...and drag blk walnut hulls as a cover scent
gjs4
It was a good book....but a few better ones out there....and many better ideas than that...bringing deer to you doesnt work well often
phade
TO me it sounds more like a way to stop them for a shot rather than bring them in...i agree, not something I would go out of my way to do.
WesternNY
If you want to do something to get them to stop on a trail or at a certain yardage why not try a licking branch.... Different ways to do it, easiest is cable tie a fresh branch on another limb with it hanging at the correct Height. You can also pound in the ground a pipe and then cut a branch and put the branch in the pipe so the end hangs at the correct height. This has been done with succes by many and is far more natural.
josephmrtn
TO me it sounds more like a way to stop them for a shot rather than bring them in...i agree, not something I would go out of my way to do. thats what he was using it as... he would place it along trail and every deer that came by would stop and lick it... and he would have time for a shot if he wanted to shoot it Edited August 20, 2013 by josephmrtn
