weatherby vanguard series 2

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I got a weatherby vanguard series 2 and I haven't had much luck with the current ammo I am using which is the core loct.  Has anyone tried a more efficient ammo with this rifle or could recommend some more premium ammo for me to use. Thanks rifle is in a 30-06

Every rifle is an individual.

There are many factory loads available for the 30-06, and the most expensive are not necessarily the most accurate in any given rifle. If I used factory loads, I'd certainly try the less expensive first. Other than the Remington green, Federal Fusion or PRVI Partisan are a couple choices that come to mind, and you can buy them for $20 a box or maybe less.

Have you tried different weights in the Remington coreloct ? Some rifles show a marked preference for a heavier or lighter bullet..Assuming that you are using the rifle for deer hunting, any standard cup/core bullet will work just fine. If your rifle does not group well with 150 grain bullets, try some 180s. Performance wise, you and the deer will never know the difference at normal hunting ranges.

Before you spend a lot of money on different ammo, be sure to check that all of your scope connections, bedding screws, etc. are properly tightened.

I use core loct in my hunting riffles and love it but like Pygmy said, every rifle is an individual. You're just going to have to try a few loads until you find the "magic bullet". I suggest you start with the cheapest ammo and work your way up. Hornady has a line of ammo out called White tail classic (or something like that...red white and blue box) that is in the same price range as the core loft.

Define "much luck".  Group sizes??

How about scope mounts, scope, all fasteners tight on the gun and a ROCK SOLID rest?

If all that passes the test, see Pygmy's post above. <grin>

Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

Just wanted to post a video of one of my successful bow hunts this year. Something about documenting your hunt and self filming adds even more of a rewarding feeling to a bow harvest when it all comes together. *Disclaimer*  I don't think I'm a "pro" nor am I trying to be just love filming and tinkering around with the editing. The audio on the video from my second doe harvest is much better than this one, I figured out a few tricks with the editing software recently and I'll have that one done by the weekend. You can skip through the talking parts if you want the shot happens around the 3:20 mark.
