SteveB
I personally would only use climbing rope.
SteveB
http://www.neropes.com/ClimbingTech.aspx New England Ropes combines the highest quality fibers with the most advanced construction technology. Every rope we manufacture acts as an integral component of a complex system, each with different performance requirements. Nylon, for example, is recognized for its outstanding strength, elasticity and abrasion resistance. It is an ideal fiber for dynamic climbing ropes due to its ability to arrest a potential fall. Polyester, on the other hand, has high strength and low stretch characteristics which are well suited for static applications where bounce and stretch are not desirable. growalot
Thanks for the tip...I believe this will be OK for the strength ...load capacity/breaking strength is good and with using it properly....making sure I slide it up at a full arms reach...any slip or rung malfunction would have me swinging away and not dropping....just like I hook up in the stand...I tether high enough that there is just a slight pull when I'm seated...that way should I pass out or loose my footing I never drop below the platform...I also have a back up...I have a short rope attached to my climbing loops to that I have a long "hook"..term escapes me...and as I climb I hook the rungs above me....I use to use that with my back strap...just incase a rung let loose...and I could hook to the stand seat as I got onto the plat form...but now that will be on the life line
thphm
At 72 do not go up in trees any more,Back to how we did it when we started from the ground and play the wind. When I did I used a teather attatched to the Harness and A Climbing Rope with Knots in it every 2' as a safety. That rope saved my a** a few times. SteveB
Using it that way will limit the shock and is the best way - limit the amount of fall. Let just say though there is a real good chance my rope demand are a bit higher
Culvercreek hunt club
Grow, What type of rope, size and what rating did it have?
growalot
Sorry Culver...had to get it out of the trunk.....1/2 in diamond braided poly...here's the thing I found in researching...the nylon is great for climbing ....but is not as rot resistant as poly....this rope is better when having to stay out in the weather and sun...which is what it will be doing for 3 months...in wet and dry colded and hot and freezing ice conditions...load capacity a bit over 500#s...it also holds knots well..... Culvercreek hunt club
That is static load and as long as it isn't exposed to a falling load it probably has a safety rating of at least 2x. Keep the connection points high as possible.
SteveB
Be sure to use a smaller diameter for the sliding prussac knot hook up.
growalot
Always...have you ever tried a low ground fall to check your harness?...it's not a pleasant thing....I'd rather swing away and hit the tree than take a drop...I'm not all that tall 5'5"...but I have long arms and of course the grapple I use as a back up on rungs above me...I mean if hitting the tree is the first option...but rather not do that either...lol
