growalot
I came home from the weekly shopping and followed the trail of corn from the neighboring town to ours and right to the farmers field that borders our back line....they are combining the fields...gave them a big hearty wave and smile as I passed ...Better late than never...so no more hiding in the corn!!! ...how do you think I should approach that area now?...I have 3 stands that border that area...one on the high side near pine woods...one on the edge of gully 200ft from middle line of corn and one on the other side of gully 200ft from edge of alfalfa clover field that's between the 2 cut corn fields...Then several between those and my turnip/radish mixed plots...the fields are to my south... deer use to use strictly our place to travel to the swamp...but when the corn wasn't cut they traveled the neighbors wood lot and gully popping out just off our SW corner where we meet two other neighbors...do You think this will get them back to us?...I know he has a few guys hunting his place...the farmer has a stand on the inside corner near our line and then the camp above has a bunch of guys hunting...the ppl on our east side all hunt but she sits...the boys climb...and the guy walks to push deer to them...which I then watch the deer duck and dbl back around him to us...seriously funny and interesting to watch...sshhhhh.. ....I really want to connect before Sat...bumped deer the entire way in today...before I even left drive...along the road...and then on the land to stand...Geez....Ideas from you guys use to corn please... BUCKANDAQUARTER
I saw a real nice buck today walking along the edge of a cut corn field at about 700am. Heavy chocolate brown rack outside the ears and tall tined. A friend of mine was bow hunting about a half mile down the road. lol. Good luck Grow. growalot
So I crunch my way in at 5 :45...made so much noise ..frost heave...I decided not to fool with the decoy...but had used a drag and hung that then sprayed doe estrus on some 6 ft beech tree leaves...hit the 22ft ladder and 7th hung I hear crunch crunch grunt crunch....seriously!I pressed up against the ladder and froze...he walked the path to the tree and stops rt at the ladder under my feet mind you I'm on the 7th rung from ground...yep ma nature giving me that finger again....he stands there a minute or so then turns and walks up the hill from me..just as it gets light a fawn runs out of the pines and a few yards behind me...and I can see they never finish the 2 corn fields...the one directly 200ft behind me is now 20ft wide and runs the 1/2 mile to the other road...the other has at least 10yrds deep the lines the land owners wood lot along gully and then to his barn. Then another fawn comes in the way I walked in and down wind of me....stiffens a bit stands and looks around sniffing then moves to other side of gully...3 more big deer skirt me up the hill headed for golden rod field.. Got out of stand at 10am...checked tracks..it was one of the big bucks ...AAUUUGGHHHH
phade
Can you walk the corn field? Walk the edge and look for the trails right on the edge with rubs on them. Bucks will make rubs on trees very near the corn field edge with the corn up. They will still use those same trails for the next few days after harvest to get to the corn to feed. growalot
We actually own the woods that line one ..20ft wide one...and no rubs and there are several trails with fresh track...where they usually rub is back by my stand..I did walk the lot above the stand and no new rubs there fresh tracks though...Talked to neighbor with Goldenrod field..and was told they routinely watch the bucks passing from them to us and walking their road that runs along our woods....they were just headed out to put up their stands..on the other side of the field...figures I'd just come in to rest the leg..I do know at least two of the boys are alive...for I recognized the distinct track under my stand...I was too afraid to move my head to try and make out the rack...lol.... but on my trail to stand was the giant splayed track of another...I compare it to my coffee mug....I believe my last years buck was one they had pushed out of the field and he ran the usual escape route to the swamps when I connected......by the way..Mr B saw the doe I hit...limping but doing fine...Told me she gets a pass for surviving if I see her again...
