Shooting

Anybody been making smoke, I hope to get my thunderbolt back from doc white this month, can't wait to hit range. Wish it would warm up some.

Been really thinking about getting a savage 10 ml-II or Nula before things really get costly. Might do a H and R 45/70 conversion too.

With the price of ammo I and surprised more have not gone to black powder.

I've been itching to get out for a while, but the weather has been too crappy. Hopefully the next week or so. I picked up a Beretta M9 about a month ago and it hasn't even been out of the gun locker yet…WTH?

I've got a Encore Prohunter but it gets cleaned and stored away by the end of the weekend during late season.  I shoot Triple Seven pellets and Hornady SST low drag 250gr sabots.  For my primary center fire deer rifle I shoot Federal Fusion 150gr 30-06 rounds.  Even if I shoot only 100gr of powder, it still costs me $0.50 more per shot with my muzzleloader.  Plus I've got to use more cleaning supplies with the muzzleloader, cleaning it more often.

Are you shooting a 100gr of pellets or loose powder.

As for cleaning supplies, try a 50/50 blend of windex to clean the bore , after that use a good oil and your good to go.

Buy your bullets and sabots in bulk rather then the pre packaged stuff to cut cost down.

I have not picked up a rifle for hunting in some time now, nothing like making smoke.

Our gun club has a winter muzzloader league... so I've been shooting every Sunday since January. Been shooting in the league for about 15 years... we shoot 25-100 yards... the yardage changes each week... It use to be just patch and roundball, but we have since included all types of muzzleloading... it's fun... we serve breakfast then shoot until the early afternoon... lots of fun, laughs, and friendly competition.

I've been thinking about switching to loose powder just for ease of accuracy tuning. then using say Blackhorn 209 versus Triple Seven.  I've got enough pellets right now that I want to stick with that.  I will probably switch once I run out.

A winter muzzle loader league sounds like fun.....Is it a course set-up like a 3d archery league where you walk through the woods and shoot from different stations?

No it's a shooting shed and targets in front of a berm... 5 shots off hand... 50pt max... 25-100 yard targets rotated each week... 12 weeks...
