New to New York State (almost)

Hello,

 

I'm new to the forum and am about two weeks away from moving to Auburn, NY (Cayuga County) from Northern NJ.  I'm also a novice hunter.  This will be my second season.  I really like Spring Turkey hunting, but I'm interested in just about anything involving being outdoors.

 

I'm joining the site in the hopes of learning about the local hunting scene, get some tips about finding public land, and to just keep learning this awesome sport.

Welcome to the site. Its a great place to learn some local knowledge for hunting in NY. Although you wont find too much about public land so you'll be on your own for that. You could speak to a dec agent and ask them where to start looking.

That area has a very high deer population and gives out excess tags every year. Montezuma has a lot of area and is public. It does have a sign in policy. Get online on the DEC webpage and you can find public land opportunities.

I completely agree!! If you could please walk in about 15-20 minutes after first light and about an hour before sunset the rest of us will like you more.
