Cam lube question

Morning!  After some shooting last night, I figured I should wax up the string and maybe put a drop of lube on the cam roller/bearing pivot points.  This comming season will be the 4th season out with the bow since it was purchased new in the spring of 2011, and I am committing to replacing the string/cable this up comming spring and getting a basic tune up done(replacing any worn out items such as rubber string stops, arrow rest felt/mole skin...etc).  I know that there are fancy cam specific lubes out there, none of which I own.  Could I use the Hoppes clear lubricating oil(all orange tube) that comes in my gun cleaning kit?  I cant see how it would hurt, but just want to ask before I do it, or is it even worth to bother with since I plan on servicing in the spring.

It's probably fine unless you can feel or hear something. If use it sparingly if you do. Usually the axles are just pulled and greased for older bows.

i've had my bow for 7 or 8 seasons and never lubed my cams. I wax the strings and replace worn parts. I'm a nut for good PM on anything I own so I'm interested in the response too. I do not hunt hardly ever in the rain though and the bow is always stored in a case.

Not sure I'd use a Hoppe's oil, has a distinct odor! Not that I'm buying or endorsing this, but I did see an odor-less bow/gun oil from Dead Down Wind. Oiling the cam (pivot) on a compound bow probably won't hurt, nor will it help or improve anything.

I have used Hoppe's on one of my bows, small amount and did not worry about smell, I hunt an area that has all sorts of smells anyway.
