Food for the hunt

All day hunting is exerting, especially if you still hunt or track!

Triple decker honey ham/turkey/cheese sandwich, I stuff it into a Tupperware bowl.  Chips and a soda to wash lunch down.  Trail mix, 3 musketeers, apple, granola bars, Gatorade, another soda and a water or vitamin water.  I carry less liquids on LI as I am much more restricted in area.  (Halloween candy!)

Trail mix type snacks are good. A candy bar is good for a sugar burst.

I really like either the self-heating soup cans or the soup cans designed to go into the microwave. Strap a hand warmer around one and toss it into your muff to keep your hands warm and also heat up the soup. By lunch time, it's nice and warm to sip.

Water or gatorade for drinks.

That soup thing is an awesome idea!

I bring a sandwich or 2. Soft granola bars.. lots of water... maybe a coffee in a good sealed container.

I got to try the soip idea and Docs fried egg sandwiches sometime... Doc, those eggs fried hard?

Yup! It really sounds nasty, but I'm addicted to them. Last year I packed 4 of them for opening day. It was supposed to be two for breakfast and two for lunch. All four were gone by 10:00 am. I couldn't help myself!

And that thermos of coffee is a must too.

Jees, some of you eat better in the stand than I eat back at camp! It's like a friggin buffet in your packs! Bunch of weenies! JK

Nothing wrong with a few creature comforts while you hunt. Hunting is not supposed to be some form of deprivation and torture. You don't get extra points for pain and suffering ... lol. As far as I'm concerned, up to the point where it all becomes a burden to carry, the more the merrier. What ever keeps me on stand longer, belongs in my pack.

I figure I'm on a vacation when going out, so I take what ever I want. I don't pay no mind to the noisy wrappers either. I enjoy the hunt, and all that goes along with it including the food. If I want a Twinkie dammit, I'm going to eat one. Might say I'm on a killer picnic, LOL.

Oh, and I see plenty of deer too! Don't you worry about that.
