Hey all, just bought a H&R pardner for deer season this year. its got a 26inch smooth bore barrel. I have heard mixed things about using sabot slugs in smooth bore. I have heard a few people have no issue, while others say the sabot flys sideways through smooth bore. I bought 5 hornady sabot slugs and 5 remi regular slugs. What are yalls thoughts?

Thats what i always thought, but the guy at gander suggested the sabots, i question it but got em anyway cuz they were 20% off. Then i googled and youtubed it and got many mixed things.

I am going to use the Remingtons Slugger rifled slugs

Save your money & just run standard slugs through it. You are gaining zero by using the more expensive  sabots. Use Remington Sluggers, Federal Truball or regular Winchester Foster type slugs. $5.00 compared to $15.00 to $20.00 per five round box.

I have had guys tell me they shoot sabots out of a smooth bore. First. As I said it seems like a waste of money and second a rifles slug way designed to impart spin on the slug in a smooth bore. A sabot is smooth because the rifling in the barrel imparts spin. A sabot in a smooth bore should slide out straight like a wad on bird shot. I can't believe at any distance there could be any reproducible accuracy that way
