F-decoys, scare crows! Odd hunting tactics

I remember social studies classes when the eskimo's would make fake people (stacked rocks) to channel migrating caribou into bow range.

Desperate times (the cold weekend and late in the season) called for desperate measures.

Short on drivers and shooters my dad was kind enough to walk/drive a patch of pines on top of a field for me. Took off a layer and made this scArecrow in less than 3 minutes.post-5544-14174613741788_thumb.jpg

Thought id prevent the deer from walking off in a channel I couldn't get to.

Dad didn't know I did that and worked as a decoy, thought it was me and from 40yrds realized it wasn't.

If decoys attract deer (but fear of shooting them by others, expense and transport issues), why not set up a line of scare crows to funnel deer your way?

Didn't work, the bedded deer I drove out of there the day prior didn't bed there on Sunday.

Thought this might be a good place to post our odd antics.

Happy hunting!

LOl, i like it.

I keep on saying I'm going to put up a snow fence,  40 yds out past my shooting lanes, in one of my favorite bow spots.  Deer like easy paths, they could jump the fence but more than likely will walk around especially if i angled it. If it is on state land and I remove fence after hunt , think its legal? lol

Try a sign....

I also have a similar pic. Of them smelling a mannequin dressed as a hunter.

Also put on an old t t shirt work up a sweat , cut it up place in zip lock bag.

Hang those strips up wind of thicket, brush lot whatever , set up on there next best escape routes.

People always talk about being super scent free, but nobody's uses their stinky sweat to their advantage !

We have a large thicket that holds the deer. In the afternoon they do one of two things,1. Head north into woods turn west move through woods towards fields , we like this as we are In the woods waiting.

Number 2. They go south , since the thicket is on the boarder of the next farm this is not so good. They leave their crops in longer then us and deer like to feed in those big open fields in the evening .

So when we get a nice south wind and have the guys, one will park on the road at the boarder walk in and hang those strips along the edge of the thicket, continue on to the end of it and hop in a stand there where he can cover the west side south end of the thicket while we are in the woods.

It's easy for him to grab them on the walk out.

It's hard to prove a negative ( the deer did not come out to the south because...) but everyone likes the shirt hunt !

I have bulldozed a pond to eliminate deer movement toward a particulAR area. As well as piled tree tops, tree plantings, crop plantings to create movement funnels, cover. A little extreme for some but habitat can be crafted to a hunters benifit.

My friend and his son hang orange vests in trees on opening day near the property line to keep the people from the other property from wandering to close when they drive ..

They had a problem with this previously , but the last two years it has seemed to work and create a boundary that they won't cross now, they see the vest figure it's a guy sitting and give some space ...
