I used to get excited when I began getting bear pictures on my trail cameras, because we never had them around here. Now, since I got into bee keeping last year, I’m happy when they do not show up on my cameras. Luckily, I have not had bear/bee issues so far, but, I know of people who have had bears rip their hives to pieces, and it is a costly, heart breaking situation. Bears will be bears, so I don’t blame them for doing what comes natural. I only hope they don’t stumble across my little apiary out back.

Have you considered a couple of strands of heavy-duty electric fencing around the bees? Might be good insurance. Maybe a solar unit if the hives are too far away from any electric source. All it takes is one visit, one night from one of those critters and the whole deal can be ruined.

Yes. Even though my hives are basically in my backyard, and I look at them before I go to work and when I come home everyday, it may come to electric fence for the peace of mind.

Some really good videos on You Tube . If I lived in bear country, would be a very worth while investment.

He was around all night then caught running in the morning.

We have young males come in, every so many years. It's a big deal to see a bear in this area.

We will see multiple bears. Last year we had a huge male come by. They hang around for a while then move on. We do see a few Sows with cubs last year thgere were two that had 4 and 3 cubs. They sure love corn. In the 18 years I'm hunting here just my neighbor behind me shot one. It was small maybe 150 lbs. I have seen them at bow season but never connected.
