bubba
the new method of the true deer hunter. They are firing warning shots to let the deer know they are there. It is very sportsman like.
wooly
I swear they should limit deer hunters to a 3 shot capacity in their firearms. Way to many Rambos out there who would do better to spend more time shooting paper under ideal conditions. >
Localqdm
I had to get up and leave my stand Friday night because of this. I guess some people enjoy it and that is hunting to them. Kinda like a machine gun fight. When you see a three legged deer struggle to run in January when its 5 degrees out, or a deer with its face blown apart, it really seems sportsmanlike, doesn't it, to empty a gun on running deer. Sat night I helped my neighbors track a deer into our sanctuary that he shot at running. He blew both left legs off--just dangling. Now if I wasn't around to escort him on our side, and this deer wasn't found, wouldn't that be a nice way to die?
whitetailfreak
im not just talking about the guys that emoty the gun on a deer but the jackholes that are doing some kind of target shooting with their rifles,im hearin 3 or 4 round bursts and then 20 or 30 rounds fired this sometimes goes on for a few hours with a few breaks in between.this has been happening all shot gun season.and not from the same neighbors at least 5 different people
bubba
so people who want to target shoot should not be allowed to during deer season? I would be much more concerned about the fools in the woods than at a target.
Doc
I've been bow hunting since october and heard only a few deer jacking shots a week.then during gun season every moron decides to shhot 500 rounds a day blowing up woods Well, I'm not sure what part of the state you are talking about, but most or maybe all of those "deer jacking" shots during bow season, if they are happening during daylight hours, would be small-game hunters here in the southern zone. As to the apparent practice shots during deer gun season I have always assumed to be somebody that missed a shot or seriously banged their rifle/shotgun and wanted to re-check their scope or something. I'm sure the "500 rounds" is most likely a bit of an exaggeration unless you are hunting next to a gun club shooting range.... lol. But every year I do hear shooting patterns that are definitely target work. The only thing that goes through my mind is that I am glad it's not me because I figure that's usually a sign of somebody who has had some sort of bad thing happen. apertureguy
That sure sounds like a small game hunter...which is what I've been doing. We're not all morons, we just don't hunt with a bow. Just the other day I came upon an old tree that was like some kind of Squirrel Meeting place. Darned tree had too many to count, running all over it. I was able to stand there and get 5 of them (my limit), but it took me 7 (reloading 1 at a time after the first 3) shots as those suckers went nuts when I started shooting...I did have to chase the last two...but only to the other side of the tree. I bet it sounded awfully odd to the other hunters who were in the area...but it worked well for me...was in the woods 10 minutes hunting and about 20 minutes pulling off skin & dumping guts. Will be making some sandwiches for later this week...enjoying some time off before holiday.
NYBowhunter
You think you all have it bad. My neighbor does not hunt anymore however he shoots everyday like clockwork at 11am and 3pm and when he does shoot his dog goes crazy and barks as well. He saw us this year when we were dragging my uncles deer out the woods and my father told him in a joking fashion that everytime you shoot you make me jump in my treestand, my neighbor just laughed. Then he went on to brag that he is target and skeet shooting and that he has 35 guns.Best yet is that he said when he use to deer hunt, he used a 458 so the deer would not go anywhere after the shot. I'm thinking this guy is a real A$$hole. But its his property and to each his own. I guess I'd rather him traget practicing then hutning....lol...Just as a side note his everyday shooting does not affect deer movement on my property. whitetailfreak
i agree with you ny,im not calling any hunter a moron shouldnt be taken the wrong way.i can tell the difference between a hunter taking a couple of shots and some one blowing off 20 and 30 round clips in a matter of seconds, over and over again for about an hour a clip.the do alternate guns you can hear some sound like pistols, then small caliber rifles and the the big boys come out.really not exagerating too much give or take 50 or a 100 rounds.if its there land they can doo what the want im all for any kind of hunting just anoying that its not done for the whole year including bow season.could be people from down state just having some fun i guess definately not hunting or the are gonna put a hurtin on alot of species.
