Just moved from NC to Buffalo-public land?

I just moved from NC and I'm new to Buffalo. Obviously turkey season is first priority since I missed ducks so I'm looking for advice on some decent public land spots within about 2 hours. I'm sure it's a bit secretive but I don't mind a drive and hike for some good spots if you're willing. Certainly willing to scout and drive if you're up for sharing a trip too. Thanks!

Lots of state land in the finger lakes within a hr or 2 of you.... some south of you down toward salamanca also....then most The state parks allow hunting also...just gotta check the dec site

Then go to caltopo.com and cross-reference.  

 

That's how I found my spots.

There's a bunch of places around like STONEAM2006 said, like east Otto, Alleghany state park, Zoar valley, Alabama swamps and tons more just to name a few. Just go in on the DEC website and you will find bunch of state land and it's boundary

thousands of acres of State Land  within a two hour drive of buffalo. Most offer good access and good hunting. You will find lots of info about most of them on the DEC web site. Most will be in Region 9, some in Region 8. good luck and welcome to Buffalo.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the great start. Just been trolling the websites you mentioned and grabbed a basic atlas and field guide at Walmart but nothing beats boots on the ground.

Lost nations in centerville is nice and there's a few other pieces of state land 5 minutes away from their. Like others have stated there's a bunch of state land in region 9 and 8 most are about 1-1.5hrs from buffalo

Get in with a local gun and sportsman's club too, you will meet fellow hunters many being land owners...

Iroquois Wildlife Refuge is 20 minutes  from Buffalo east on Interstate 90. Thousands of acres of state and federal land. Excellent hunting for several species.
