I called the taxidermist for an update on my bear rug and skull.  Looks like I won't see the skull until May and the rug until July.  The tannery, bug box guy and the taxidermist are all very busy.  I guess they need to make a year's worth of income all at once, so it doesn't surprise me.

I was told the Tannery is what takes so long.

I was also told that.  But the taxidermist also said they do bear rugs in between all of the deer heads they do too.  So the rug will most often be the last thing they finish.

I don't mind though.  It gives me time to save the money to pay for it.

You know when you get it home and place it where its gonna stay,you won't even think about the cost.I know I love to just stare at the heads I have.The wife thinks I'm nuts.But that thing well put a smile on your face for years.Enjoy it.Its only money.

I agree.  But it's still good to have time to gather the money, rather than shell it out today.

Well what do you know, the taxidermist called and said the rug and skull are ready.  Way ahead of schedule to their surprise.  It measures 6 1/2 feet from nose to tail and they say it looks fantastic.  I'll be picking it up Thursday 4/21/11.  Pics will soon follow.

Wonder why the eye orbits aren't complete on skull? Rug looks great!!

I noticed that eye obit opening too.  But all the bear skulls in the shop look just like that and that's where the ears are located on the head too.  Lots of muscle in that spot to control the ears I guess.

That's a real nice bear and a great rug! I love that we see pics of the bear when you got it and the rug it became. That's a classic before & after photo shoot! Congrats and enjoy that rug and the meat.
