45/70
I picked up some old 303 ammo but that has corrosive primers in it. I think I will just add that to my old boxes of ammo that I collect from time to time.

45/70
Does anyone know how close are the. Stocks on a Springfield 30/40k. And a 03 A3. I am mostly interested in the hand guards.. I have a krag coming. That is in a sporterized stock. And I want to make it more military looking.
Pygmy
I don't have either rifle in hand, but judging from the pictures and the dimensions they are not even close.. The Krag has a much longer barrel than the Springfield. Also, the rear handguard on the Krag is cut out for the rear sight.. Since the 03A3 uses a peep sight, there is no cutout on the rear handguard.
45/70
OK thanks I am just going to have to wait till I see what I got. And figure something out. Thanks
Pygmy
You might check some stock manufacturers on the net, such as Boyd's...They may make replacement stock kits for Krags, as they do for Garands and some other military rifles. Good luck !
Pygmy
I checked Boyds Stocks and can can get Krag stocks there..They also offer handguards separately.. One of my buddies bought a Boyd's stock for his Garand, and it is very nice.

Daveboone
I have my dads '98 Mauser, in its original 8x57 mm. He put a redfield aperture and Herters bird eye maple stock on it, and I took my first buck with it. Over the past few years, I performed some long needed updating...competition firing pin and spring, Timney trigger, drilled and tapped it for Leupold single piece mount. It now wears a 1.5x 5 Leupold. I hated to move away from the beautiful piece of maple dad used, but by going to a Hogue synthetic (glass bedded of course)I saved about 2 lbs, Lastly I replaced the stock trigger guard assembly with a commercial trap door version...saved almost a 1/4 lb there. With my long used Sierra 175 loads, she is the best shooting gun I have now. It has work duty on my upcoming Newfoundland moose hunt.

45/70
Dave , i love the 8 mm. mausers I have a number of them. I gave up my 270 win for a sporterized Mauser. I call it my 270 thou. Yours sounds great. Best of luck on your hunt. Let's us know how you make out.
Pygmy
Okay, Partner....The stock is listed at $144. The handguard is listed at $45... They are both unfinished and semi inletted, so you'd have some work to do fitting it.
