I got it for under $200

Maybe because it was in HI. But the guy shipped it to me in 5 days.

303 with a 3 to 9 scope on it, got it in 1964, in Paramus at Ramsey outdoor store for less than $100. Has taken a lot of deer over the years. Was made in 1944 in CA Long Branch. I did redo the stock. No good looking as the new rifle, but for down right a working man rifle.

I hunted with one for a lot of yrs. Put it in a composition stock that I swear made it weigh more. But it was a good shooter.

Cool Krag!

I hate to admit it, but I almost forgot that last fall I also bought a sporterized Krag. The military stock was sporterized, with a redfield aperture added. I bought it from the estate of a very old local family...actually the pioneering family of our town (circ. 1780), so I get very excited thinking about the experiences it had. Even in the early 20th century, our area was pretty wild.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.  sorry, no pics. I got mine for 225., and was surprised to get it for that.

I had a bid on two of them I would of liked the other. One better but someone wanted .more than me .I let it go. And found this one. I put the opening bit on it and no one else bid on it. So that was a surprise.

It goes bang and it ejects the bad news is it doesn't feed the next round.

And I find 3 Steyr Mannlicher carbine's

8+50r. They sure are a cool looking rifle

8 x 50R ammo and components are tough to come by and expensive if you can find any..

 

The later 8 x 56 is a little more available, but still not plentiful...I guess that Privi Partisan loads factory ammo, but production is intermittent and its often hard to find..

I found some on ammo to go.

But that is what everyone says tuff to get rounds.

Ammo To Go has ammo 8 x 50R Lebel, which is not the same as 8 x 50R Austrian..

 

They don't list any 8 x 50R Austrian ammo..

 

They also have 8 x 56 Austrian,  in Privi Partisan..

 

Were those Steyr carbines perhaps chambered for the 8 x 56 ? That would be preferable because that ammo is available in factory loads with reloadable brass (Hornday or Prvi)

If they turn out to be the 8 x 56R, they might be a good deal, since ammo is available..If they are the (earlier) 8 x 50R chambering..Not so much so, at least if you want a shooter.

Yup. I know the name stamped on the top of the chamber was Steyr and they are deff. Carbines short and light. With the straight pull back bolt.

The tag on them was 8+ ? R. 8 by 5/16 3/8 15/32

I am going to call the shop on Tue. And find out if the guy traded in any ammo or brass. I will find out what the heck it is.

Anybody here ever pick up a old military rifle that someone sporterized and return it back to the way it was when it was carryed on the battle field.

I just finished one. A long branch #4 Mk1 *. Still have a few thing for it..l need to pick up.

I know I posted some of this before. Was hopeing

Some other guys would tell us about their project.

I think I should make this a new post. So I don't change the topic of hunting.

Woodchuck s or coy dogs ? I think it would be fun to try. What due you guys think.

The more I think about this the more I like it

I am going on a recon mission sat. Looking for their bunker. Find out how many inhabitants there are and what there travel routes are most used, then come up with a plan.

I am going to have to fig.out how to get in and out

With out being detected. I mite have to look for a used drone for this mission.

Back in the day when there were numerous chucks around the local hayfields, I shot a number with my K98K 8mm and my M1 Garand...I also have used my Yugo and my M1 to dispatched a couple of sick coons and several porcupines

Called the shop it's a 8/56 and he has ammunition there

From looking at some loading data it Push's a 200

Gr.bullet around 2300. That's better than some

35 rem's.

Picked one up

It does everything it should just fine.

Loads , feeds, ejects, dumps mag clip out

The bottom. Like a M1 upside down.

Took to the range for a quick test.shoots

High at close range which is normal.

This is my first 5 rounds
