One last Shot on Lake O for the Year

Gonna head out this afternoon to take one last crack at the staging kings.  Caught our biggest of the year Weds. night at 27lbs.  Hoping to one up that (really want to break 30lbs), but any action would be great and time with Dad surpasses the fishing anyways.  Then its on to a two week doe season?  lol

No luck last day.  No complaints though, it was a fun season.  Phade caught a solid 14+ lb brown his last time out.  On to chasing the elusive big buck.

I was signed up for a bass tournament this weekend, but my buddy bailed and decided to go to out of town instead. Im putting my fishing gear away for the year.

30 lb this year would of been one heck of a goal.  Funny how just a short few years ago 30lbers were a dime a dozen.  The king fishery in LO is on a fast downslide.  We are only averaging 15 to 20lbers on the SR.  And there isnt very many of them either.  Last year was miserable and this year is worse yet.   I bought a t shirt today that says   WTF   and above that says Where's The Fish.  LOL

Fishing is down a bit but it's like someone from IA complaining about a bad deer season. Still far better than most places.

The bass fishing was spectacular as always this year with smallmouth limits (I am a stricktly "catch and eat" guy, no "senseless-maiming" of fish for me) almost every day we went out up on the St-Lawrence this summer, and at my in-laws camp in the Adirondacks. Just a little "hit and miss" out on the Upper Niagara this year, but the neighbor kid took a nice musky on our last trip out there. He got me that day on the smallies too, but couldn't quite keep up on the largemouths the following week down on Findley lake.

I am still planning on hitting the smallies a few more times, up at the in-laws, between morning and evening x-bow and ML deer hunts in a couple of weeks. Last year the lake froze up there, on the morning after I took my rifle-season buck. The lake temperatures are up sharply this year at this time. We might even get to have some fresh fish up there, along with our turkey and venison, this thanksgiving. I am extremely thankful for the ease with which one can "live off the fat of the land" here in NY. I gotta go, as I can smell that my wife has some of that fish just about cooked.

Here on the east end its not down just a bit, its way way down. End of september and you should be able to walk across there backs on the SR. You can go all day and not see a salmon right now.
