Coyote regs question

Recommended Posts

No centerfire in areas where you can only hunt deer with a shotgun during regular season, only .22 or smaller rimfire or shotgun. If you are in a zone where you can use a rifle for deer during the regular season, you are good to go with whatever shotgun, centerfire or rimfire you want. That goes for any open deer season, not just archery.

 To keep it simple:

Does Orange county allow centerfire rifles:

If YES: you may use centerfire rifle during coyote season, even during bow season and deer season

If NO: then only rimfire can be use during coyote season

You can never go wrong using a shotgun with 00Buck shot. You size gun is based on what that county allows.

  • You may hunt furbearers with a rifle chambered in any cartridge, except that during any open season for deer - including archery, muzzleloading and regular seasons - you may not possess a rifle larger than .22 caliber rimfire afield, during the day or night, to hunt wildlife, including furbearers in any county or portion of a county where deer hunting with rifles is prohibited during the regular deer season. Centerfire rifles smaller than .22 caliber are permitted.

The way it reads is for the few counties/regions still not allowing the use of rifles, or in bow only areas.

Anyone know any stores in WNY stocking non-toxic buckshot or similar predator loads? I like the looks of that Federal brand coyote load, might be BB shot, but haven't seen it on shelves yet. The Iroquois preserve ( Swamps ) is non-toxic shot only.

I would mail / online order some, but 'SAFE' Act......
